Gud am bros. What generic frame would be a good bang-for-the-buck purchase for a dh newbie (th dh, hehe) Something in the sub 10k price range.
No problem about heavy weight as long as it can handle the front and rear shock upgrade, plus 190 pound load (okay 200, with equipment, hehe)
So far, I've seen some Mongoose fs frames in the bike gallery. I also like the ZSC frame but it looks expensive (although I can't seem to find ZSC brand on the net) Any brand and store recommendations? Tnx.

hmmm... ZSC whaaat? hahaah... dont even go there brad.. ur gna break it even b4 u can try.
200lbs? no problem... just go to dirt dawg(bans or ryan), cycle option(sam n efren) or endless(egay) bike shops...and inquire about the Vision Cruizer frame..
i will guarantee ur money that its worth and ur gna break urself even b4 u dent this frame.
heres the spec... get a vision cruizer thats correct for ur height n size.. 14"=small, 16"=medium, 18" =large(for riders 6' n up)
get a risse eibach rearshock at get the 650lbs coil spring(these shops have these!!!)
now its up to you on what fork u want.. u can go old Z150 or an old boxxer...
this bike is so solid iv tried trashing this thing already and im currently still at it... hehehehe *pro rider Ely zapanta is also currently trashing one.... were still both at it....
its light.. yes and the rear linkage is short but its got 7.5" of full travel ( if you can jump big 7-10 footers ur gna need all that inches, but if u dont on a regular basis, i doubt if u can break it)
when we finished my cruizer i thought it was an AM bike ...its light, its solid, its stable(think ellsworth moment geometry) just rig it with a good rear shock and plenty of fork travel.
it can go up and down with a size 38 chainring......mongoose frames dish like 4" rear travel and these things clunk on the trail like dragging 10 dog chains behind! lol
check it out brad.......... btw Vision bike components are manufactured and designed by Da Bomb bikes.... i use to tide for da bomb way back in the day with boyet C, arjuna S, joseph M. hehehehe.. i kept breaking mindbombs so they kicked me ...hahahahah....
its worth the money ..
PS.. i broke my kona stab d-lux( it retired)

How about SHAWN H3??? comments??? ;D

Post by REDNEB on Aug 7, 2007 11:47:13 GMT 8
the old shawn H3 with the moto-link design is a good solid bike.. provided you get a good long travel and plush fork........... iv tested one of these size medium naka 888rc... balance sya.
the new shawn H3 with the horst link is also good... but it kinda lacks beef on the pivots and the tubes are a bit small for proportion with the long linkage..... so if ur opting for a new shawn h3 hosrt link... id suggest the Mosso DH/FR 07 horst... its beefier and the tubes are boxed on the welds.... heheheheeh.... same price tho for the mosso n h3...
but all these bikes have to be customized to fit and adjusted to your ride if you wanna get the most bang out of your buck.....
im not a legend noh....... i still have demons in my mind ... i need to break my own record im just another old silly guy trying to push the boundaries of mt. biking..... hehehe
hope this helps....

Hi PinoyMTBiker guys, just got a vision cruizer frame yesterday, it was recommended by my ride buddy and friend iano16 who is currently riding a cruizer too. Got a few questions guys hope you can properly suggest based on your experience and knowledge.
1. A good and match fork to use?_______________ 2. Rear shock? Coil / Air?_________________ 3. H.bar size + stem?______________________ 4. Crank single?_____________________
Btw, we use to ride in tagaytay DH and trails in cavite and muntinlupa... Hello iano16 see you man
Thanks a lot... ian

ian.... yo dude heheeh... just go to your local bike shop and ask them to tune-in your front n rear according to your weight n riding style.... if ur into full gravity riding ummm... boxxer then cruiser then go "as wide as you can go rims" and get a thru-axle da bomb rear hubs and your all set... then remember coil springs...hehehehe if ur into AM and FR ... if your the brand type concious ummm.... go fox36 front and a 4.0 DHX air rear and sum ryhno lite rims or go manitou front n rear air set-up hehehehe..... for the budget concious ummmm...... kowa single crown 6" and some Risse eibach rear shocks(available at ur local LBS fer 7thou+)..weve tested the risse on four-bars, horsts, mono-links they work very well(considering compression n damping works to the dot)....cuz i tell'ya DNMs work when theyre bnew..but after a while its like having a bungee cord for shocks... THOSE THINGS WILL THROW YOU AWAY LIKE A RAGDOLL THAT IS IF IT DOESNT RIP APART AND TWISTS ALL THE LINKAGES.....LOL...hence the term DNM or "Did Not Move"........ i learned that from rocketman....lol and again wer not pros.... well not anymore cuz we are now just silly old guys trying different stuff and we just broke more stuff than we could ever imagine in a whole decade of mt biking...ahehehehehe... xmexr hmmmmm........ sativa rules! hahahahah god bless sagada!

i got a Shawn H3 Horst link setting it up with, DNM Volcano Fork, Manitou metel rear shock, double track rims, maxxis dh tires, Da bomb fuse stem, tribal handle bar, Shimano hone crank set, having a flatform style MOB pedals... seems no problem with me... im comfortable riding it downhill... ;D

bert heheheh hey man i got nothin against DNM or the SHAWN H3(aka asterisk ) hahaha.... DNM is a competitive manufacturer in the MTB suspension industry and the H3 horst is an engineered bike(asterixk also manufactures the "Phantom FR" in taichung)...but its how you tune your suspension to your ride is what really matters... i dont brand-bash cuz i've broken more stuff that have been claimed indestructible.......hence: "Its not what you broke, Its how you broke it" is what really counts........ Ride on! hehehehe

redneb good advice...
ika nga, "been there done that" hehehe, to those guys looking for cheap DH frame... go for vision, extension ( go for rocketman's extension) shawn can be but lacks beefness...
a dh bike must have the ryt components din, ryt fork and rear shocks, ryt brakes... and tires..
even if you have the ryt frame ur components still play a very big factor in handling and performance...
ryt frame ryt componets keep that in mind

SOLD na extension, ......hehehehhehee
if buying extension, go for the 05 or 06 model much beefier. 40k to 50k. if you can find one.
03 model seat mast is the weakest link hehehe
extendead TIG WELD you na? where's yur BITEN?
GO FOR VISION CRUIZER! highly recommended!
fork fox 36 or KOWA single crown, go for coil rear shak.
In our time, It was the FSR LINK pacific/TRIXTER poor man's intense M1 real value for money ( one size only) 20 plus k then.
lucky me and lucky you we are flooded with good dh frames today.

bert txt pm G.T.U. or rocketman theyre at patiis 4x a week ata..... extendead christopher! nyahahahaha... wers the V10 shaolin master? i have V8 here ....Tomato juice?! hehehe yep b4 the horst link became the holy grail of suspension design..... came the four-bar linkage trixxters.... most of the old dhers still regard this design as the grand-daddy of all successful designs( the trixxter kept bottoming out... we dnt know why but it really does) but for a "bang for your buck" bike price.. this is where everyone started...... after riding a trixxter..... ummm your bound to become the "Sharpest tool in ur shed" ika nga ng mga canadians........ ... the extension is very well designed bike.. ( they eliminated the bottoming by giving the lower linkage more angle and adjusting the shock positions) thus a re-labeled azonic kinda bike.... lol @peng i have hi-tensile supercito welding here in my ofc..... ano ba weldingin? ....... I-beam ng building? pwede to! lol (i'd bet the tubes will melt even before contact with the arc)... lets make your ex10sion into an aluminum ring or binibining pasay crown! lol miss u jamal, mis u pengot, hehehehe
