I just talked to Urge mag folks, trying to confirm a rumour that the Baguio leg of the San Mig tour had been rescheduled. I was told that it has indeed been rescheduled, and that it will now be held on April 8 and 9, which was previously the date of the Cebu leg. I pointed that out, and was told that "siguro" the Cebu race will be rescheduled. I also pointed out that there is already a race scheduled at Asin on the 8th, and was told "dehins namin alam yan".
If anyone here has inside contacts with the organizers, please...URGE them to get their act together, set dates that don't conflict with other events, and get the information out to the riding public!
For me personally it's a pain in the backside, big time. I'd planned to bring the family to TLBF, see friends in Dumaguete for a week, do the Cebu race, and come back home. Already made reservations, bought tickets, etc. Now the whole plan is shot.
Not wanting to be too picky or anything... but nakakainis kaunti! (for the benefit of the English-speaking rule - a little irritating).

what the?! this is not good! What I said after the call was a little less tactful, started with "pesteng yawa" (getting in shape for the Cebu race) and moving on from there. The guy I talked to seemed clueless... when he told me the Baguio race was rescheduled to the 8th and 9th, I mentioned that those were the scheduled dates for Cebu; he didn't even seem aware of that! I think it would make more sense to leave the Cebu race as scheduled, and find an open date later in April for Baguio... but what I think doesn't matter much! If decisions have been made, they REALLY need to get the news out... this stuff is right around the corner, and people are making plans.

well, here in baguio, all they're talking about is the asin race... maybe they're doing some secret training for the san mig. hehehe.... but still, why did they move it??? it's fine the wat it was!

The guy I spoke to said there was another event scheduled at John Hay, and that there would be a lot of trail traffic and other conflicts. I know the area where the course is gets used for horseback riding, maybe a conflict with some horse-related event?
Any way you look at it, seems the organizers were not quite on top of things.
I'll be down in Baguio Fri and Sat...

hmm maybe, but the organizers should have contacted john hay long before they started the event, so all scheds are smooooth.

hmm maybe, but the organizers should have contacted john hay long before they started the event, so all scheds are smooooth. Exactly! And they should check for schedule conflicts before rescheduling! How hard is that, really...? When the guy told me the new sched was April 8/9, the first thing I asked was "isn't that the same as the Cebu race"? The answer was something like "oo nga, no? Siguro irereschedule 'yung Cebu". That struck me as a bad sign.

But according to their original press release, as cited on another thread here, April 8 and 9 were the original scheduled dates for Cebu! So now they are rescheduling two races instead of one...
The organizers of the Asin race will be upset, and I can't say I blame them!

brad, if I were you, I'll support the local community race, that way this may grow into an annual activity. This may be their first..with enough participant the local organizer will be able to improve and make some exciting stuff years to come. San Mig throws around races like this since they have enough funding to do so. i'm devastated!!! don't know which race to join!!!!!

hmm... logical. but i'm sure the asin has more participants since they have more publicity here. not enough riders know about the san mig. i met a biker along my training and he said that there would be a downhill race in john hay, that's what they know, downhill only.
if i join the asin, it's only a one shot race. if i join the san mig, if i get into the top 20, i'll still be able to join the nationals.
what do you think?

I give my vote for the ASIN race!!!!!!!!!! they did set the schedule after San Mig Tour, very considerate on their part. therefore, people should go that race.
My 0.50 ;D
Can the Urge / San Mig Tour just support that one ?? Without any pride, this venture should be awesome!!!!!
Nono

Dunno how strong you are when it come to racing? looking for a podium finish, you'll have to be competing with local regular mtb racers& roadie on this one. How many races have you joined? What's you stats? If you havent raced before...I guess the best line will be... "surprise us" good luck brad hmm... logical. but i'm sure the asin has more participants since they have more publicity here. not enough riders know about the san mig. i met a biker along my training and he said that there would be a downhill race in john hay, that's what they know, downhill only. if i join the asin, it's only a one shot race. if i join the san mig, if i get into the top 20, i'll still be able to join the nationals. what do you think?

I would honestly rather do the Asin race, as a matter of principle (especially since I have no illusions about winning anything). My son wants to do the San Mig badly, since he figures to be pretty competitive in a 17 and under bracket anywhere in the country: he hasn't raced yet, owing to our remote location, but he rides a lot and rides hard, and smokes visiting triathletes and adventure racers routinely.
So I suppose we'll do San Mig, even if it means a mad dash back from Dumaguete, which is where we're headed after TLBF...

Wow, finally something that makes sense... except that I'm arriving in Mnl from Dumaguete on the afternoon of the 7th. Looks like a midnight drive... going north out of Mnl on a Fri. rush hour is not my idea of fun!

that makes sense, does that mean that the only xc race will be the asin race? all categories? or will the have the xc races again on the afternoon of the 9th? hopefully they don't run out of time again.
