Does anybody know what the date of the La Union "Bike the Dust" race will be this year?
Any other events scheduled for the next few months? My son wants to race in the worst way...

Thanks for the link... the site gives the date as Tues, Feb. 7, which kind of sucks. Would have been nice to put it on a weekend!

If it's on a weekend, we'll probably go... a Tuesday would be tough, kids would miss 3 days of school. Not that Joey would mind!

Does anybody know what the date of the La Union "Bike the Dust" race will be this year? "Bike the Dust" is a HELL or/and HEAVEN race. There are several categories to join.... the most fun would be the team category (8-10 bikers per team) The most humbling biking experience ever..... Ever wonder how a turtle feels beside a rabbit ..... especially sa starting line. If you need a comparative for your MTB skills, speed and endurance..... asses them in this race. BTW... this is a highly anticipated race by most folks who lives around LaUnion/SnFrnando area. This is one experience that any MTBiker should join.

Looks like we won't be going... that weekend is fiesta in Sagada, kids have athletics and I'm coaching a soccer team. Maybe next year.
On a sort of sour note, I was in Baguio not long ago, and asked several people if they planned on going down to the race, as it's quite close. Nobody seemed terribly interested. Turned out the reason was that a lot of the Baguio riders say the La Union riders cheat. I'm not going to condemn anyone on hearsay, but I got the same reports from a couple of different people: specific comments were that spectators take turns running beside the local riders and pushing them up steep climbs, and that the local riders use shortcuts on the XC loop.
Anyone else have comments on this? Is it just sour grapes/samang loob, or is there something to it? I will say that the people I heard it from are, in my experience, pretty decent guys, and not the type who would make excuses for losing.

But I was there to "beat" myself and for the experience.... I was there not to win but to have fun. Although for racers .... talagang "nakakawalang-gana".

maybe the understanding of the locals is that it's a FUN RIDE instead of a RACE. labo naman . . .
I even heard there are some races wherein riders catch a ride from a motorbike in the middle of the race. magandang gawin dyan is to bring a vid cam and record all them cheaters on video para mapahiya.
