Last night, I was brought to the Medical City emergency room because I couldn't bend my left knee due to severe swelling. From a slight stinging sensation I felt 3 weeks ago, the pain level became unbearable as if someone was stabbing/drilling my knee. The pain developed 3 weeks after doing daily 25/min a day Jump Rope, 100-120 prison squats, and other leg exercises. (trying to strengthen them legs for SS'ing ;d). The doctor (Cute ;d) told me that I had bone spurs on my patella and that I needed to stay off biking (S.O.B.!!!) and physical activities that would put pressure on my knee. I have an appointment with an orthopedic tomorrow to know how severe it is and what kind of treatment I need. Anybody here who went through the same experience? How long were you asked to stay off your bike?

not exactly bone spurs but the last time i was home, i developed a case of gout on my right foot. it swelled up like a balloon and any little pressure or touch would cause extreme pain. fortunately, i had a local doctor in Marikina prescribe some strong anti-inflammatory and the swelling and pain went down almost overnight. Within 2 or 3 days, i was able to ride again. unfortunately, the attack happened the day before the subic xrc race so i was not able to race for all terra... i'm hoping to make up for it during my next trip home..

some two years ago while still playing regular sunday basketball, i developed plantar faciitis (heel bone spurs) which made simple walking painful to my right heel and made me sidelined (from running and other sports) for almost a quarter. ortho doc told me that the only treatment for heel spurs is to have it operated where they make "kayod" (is correct trans grated ;D) the bone spurs, which causes the pain (dunno if it's the same treatment with knee spurs though). after being sidelined from any activity for a quarter (year) and feeling that my fitness level has reached zero resistensiya, i finally disregarded doc's advise and started doing brisk walking and when things went better, went back to running and badminton. no prob naman. mas lalong no prob when i discovered mtbiking get well soon PA

flipnidaho: uric acid ka be hell, but really can't stay away from the good stuff. ;d Right now I'm besfriends with the post op pain killers prescribed to me. Can't really walk without them.
Fafa Lenard: The doctor also advised swimming muna if I want to continue exercising. Looks like I'll trade in my baggy shorts for a pair of speedo's ;d. I hope I become a stronger swimmer in the process hehehe.
Sir Arci: Also had plantar faciitis that mysteriously dissappered. I hope my condition won't require surgery though (been through 3 surgeries already. ayaw ko na).
