specifically fistula-in-ano. I have this problem now called fistula-in-ano. i read here in the net that it is caused by shock in the bum area. also if one has colitis or inflammed colon(which i had). a fellow biker also had this problem and had it surgically repaired, actually 3 bikers that i know had this problem. one had it last october and the other two had it a few years back.
question, is this fistula-in-ano problem occur more on bikers due to the fact that our buttocks is somewhat "always in shock"? or is this an isolated incident?
your comments are very much appreciated in the matter.

Hi Sir,
Back in 2002, I underwent surgery to remove my fistula in ano. Actually I had two of them. Based on my doctors explanation, Fistula-in-ano is most likely caused by an infection. He specified the use of those old school bidets and using tissue paper to wipe your bum after visiting the oval office as the two major sources of infection.
I've had this problem since 98 and i'd have the occasional discomfort or attack that can be soothed by those hemmorhoidal creams or sitting on a big bucket of luke warm water. By 2002, the pain was already too much to handle and those remedies that I just mention did little to soothe the pain. That's the first time I visited the doctor (yep I don't like doctors). He told me that surgery was the only option in my case to which I was hesistant to approve of. The only thing that convinced me to undergo surgery was when he mentioned that this thing can lead to cancer if it goes untreated.
I suggest that you see a doctor as soon as possible. I'm not saying that you go under the knife as soon as possible, but check how bad is the infection.
Also, I started trail biking in 2003 and I THANK GOD that I haven't experienced any relapse. (I don't think that biking can cause this as well) The post surgery pain (including that d@mn catheter) was the worst pain the I ever felt in my life.

tsk tsk..it took you 4 years to see a doctor?!?! man, that is something. i went to the doctor as soon as the bulge in my bum burst open and he said that i first undergo fistulogram to be sure if it really is a fistula and to my dismay, it really was a fistula.
how long did you rest and how long till the pain got away? cus my bum is "itching" to sit in the saddle of my bike.hehe

It took me 2 months to fully recover from the surgery. The first month was the hell month because you can't go anywhere without your laxatives and doughnut pillow. Oh yeah did I mention that partially lost muscle control over my you know what. It took 6 months to regain its holding power, but it didn't go back to 100%. That's why if I need to clear the pipes, I do it immediately. I wouldn't dare hold it back. (this also applies even when trail riding...my buddies can attest to that ;D)

dang! maybe because it was that severe due to the fact that it took you 4 years to go under the knife, wasnt it? hehe, if you have the "urge to splurge" while in the trail, man! that is something. ;D i just hope that does'nt happen to me when i go under the knife.

The doctor said that it's normal to lose grip on that area after the procedure because they will be cutting away portions of flesh (I remember the doctor even mentioning creating a hi-way as analogy). I think the reason why I never achieved 100% strenght was because I had two fistula's. The doc removed chunks of flesh in two different areas (anterior and posterior).

went under the knife last 23 june. when the anesthesia was injected through my spine, i got unconscious. and it scared the hell out of my doctors! ;D after gaining consciousness they started the op and lasted for nearly 2 hours. at the recovery room, i stayed 'till i got to bend my knee on my own power (after 2 hours of trying to make my knees move an inch). after that, i stayed three more days in the hospital.
the doc got a chunk of flesh about a size of an adults fist "back" there, if you know what i mean. ;D
now, i do hot sitz 2-3x a day and slowly the wound is closing. i think in about 2 more weeks i can sit in the saddle again.hehe
