I'm sure some of us are already aware that due to the rainy season Denque cases in the past week are alarmingly increasing in the Rizal provinces, San Mateo included. A lot nice of trails are in this area, it would be sad to see a rider getting the dengue fever. Please take necessary precautions when hitting the trail.
Please do not forget to apply anti mosquito repellant when biking in the said area.
Safety first, always;)

Your timely post reminded me that I'm as vulnerable on the trails to Dengue as I am at home or at work. Thanks! =)

Yup I agree. Do take the necessary precautions specially those who trek the Maarat trails in the afternoon. Dengue mosquito carriers are most common around that time of the day. (Read and learned the info from the DOH books and articles.) Kaya ingat ka sir Tofi on your afternoon rides.

Is It possible that the mosquito will bite you when your pedalling in the trail... Since more of the bikers use "sunblack" (this is the long sleeve use by the riders to avoid getting more tan), hand gloves, helmet and cycling shorts. So, the only area expose is your legs and face...

if only residents in the area , would take this matter in thier own hands and start to clean the area or their repective places, this plague wouldn't have a chance....

if only residents in the area , would take this matter in thier own hands and start to clean the area or their repective places, this plague wouldn't have a chance.... i'm a resident of san mateo, rizal... just at the foot of the famous maarat trails. not that the province is not clean... our area/community/village is clean... no chance of those pesky bugs to thrive-on. the problem is that rizal province population is much more dense than any province... dengue can be an epidemic/outbreak if many people in the place (location) gets the illness... dengue capable mosquitoes thrive in all parts of the country... it's just a matter of how many gets the illness in one area... also dengue-capable mosquitoes does not only thrive in 'dirty' places, it also exist in 'clean' areas... ...just my 2 cents...

It's not the cleanliness of the area. Hongkong is very clean but there is also outbreak. SARS, Dengue, Japanese Encipalities... But you can see the activities of the government to control and avoid further outbreak. TV and other means of media are use to inform and educate the people...
Hopefully, the Dengue cases wil be solve soon...
This is only a good example to handle such cases...

Another problem is the Rizal area is not like our cities where almost every sqare-meter has an owner/caretaker who could check for stagnant water or other signs of mosquito populations. We're talking here of the same lands which we use as trails--thousands of hectares of land, that many places don't see human contact for months. Mosquitos can breed there without being disturbed. For now, IMHO our best weapon is really mosquito repellent.
