It's 5am at Clearwater , Clark Pampanga just before the 07 Triathlon Nationals
I overhear Trantado's resident halimaw Mark Candelaria telling our other age group contenders , "look for the right kind of pain, and maintain it throughout the race" ( mods , dont want anything lost sa tansalation )
I'm not even considered to be a remote contender hehe but I like the plan
So I the whole race my whole focus was on that right level of pain and maintain
Effective nga!On the bike , I was passing everyone. Kids , housewives , plus nakipagpukpukan w/ a guy on a mtb w/ his daughter sitting on the handlebars
But my level of pain is completely different from Mark's and the other ex RP team member's tolerance for pain
You cold see it at the run leg
It was Arland Macasieb , 30sec behind was George Vilog , and Mark was 2:51min behind at the start of the run
It was at the halway point where it got interesting
Vilog was now first
If Vilog was at redline he wasnt showing it
But Macasieb was cramping and he ws running w/ his head leaning on one side and you can see pain sa muka. It's like somone who just suffered from a stroke was running at a 33min/10km pace . Pero he wasnt slowing down, maintain ang pace
Mark whowas third , looked the same. His head was bent to one side, you know he's in extreme pain pero maintain ang pace. No way he was slowing down, in fact I think he was trying to accelerate!
How the @#$% do they do that?
It's at this point , where race shifts to mental strength than physical
They ran the next half of the run leg in extreme pain !
You can see this type of pain sa ESPN but nothing beats watching it live
We tried to make Mark run faster by yelling , pare 2.5 km nalang inuman na! hehe
Fafa George won the event and RP's no1 Macasieb ws 2nd and Mark was 3rd overall
So new strategy sa races
Ignore everything else , gotta find the right pain and stick w/ it
ps - was able to watch half of the the George, Macasieb , Candelaria show because I was at the sprint event
