seems biking's not enough for you to lose that beer belly! i've been pushing hard (or atleast i think) for the past couple of months and i'm pretty sure (with the way my old shirts fit) that i've lost a decent amount of flubber. the thing is, my belly seems to have been left out on the shrinkage! does this only affect street-freeriders? or do XC riders also fail to tone their abs? a muscled friend of mine said that abdomnals are rarely worked on pedalling. any thoughts on this? is there any truth to spot reduction? man, my belly's fat!

Even in body sculpting/building, fat around the abdominal area is the last or hardest to get rid of. In fact, some if not most take fat-burning pills along with concentrated work out on the abs.
Don't worry- XC riders face the same dilemma. If you want to get rid of that flab, without doing concentrated exercise (eg. sit-ups), you'll have to ride a lot and starve yourself on the side. ;D When the body switches to "famine mode", it gets fat from other parts of the body to convert it to energy. hehehehe

Just do some mild situps consistently. Its good for the back especially in trials, you should know...

same here joes, its really hard to cut those flabs, but i have loss a significant amount of fat in the middle by just pedalling almost everyday, maybe what brusko said was true, starve your body and it will burn the unwanted fats, (brusko! i think i'll just follow your advise when im within our village, starving myself on the trail is an invitation for disaster ;D ;D

I tried dieting kasabay ng todo training and all it did was get me sick Plus pati muscles mag bebreakdown kasi it's not getting the proper nutrition You have to tune your diet , para your body still gets proper nutrients Thats what I did Avoid sit ups unless you have a strong back , mas maganda crucnhes Crunches ang cooldown ko after a ride, usually 2X100 reps thats good for around 6min Need those abs ripped before summer!

don't try to be like something that is not real... having those fabulous abs are just for show... most of them (models/bodybuilders) can't even run/walk for a distance, because of low body fat & carbo-depleted state... most of them are not aerobically-healthy (tama ba term ko?) they just look great... but really is ampaw... they're hot-headed all the time... (so, what's the difference... heheheh...) pedalling furiously really works the abs, but does not really lose the fat around the middle, it's equalized on the whole body... it's also dangerous to lose a considerable amount of fat because it's not only the visible fat that is affected, but also the internal organs... body builders peak for competition... models peak for a photo-shoot... but after that glamour, they eat voraciously... hehehe... to gain back what they lost... look at eric morales after the second fight... fat, like a baby, really... and that's his real body... the real hunks are the kargadors @ the pier & the masons.... hehehehe.... (ahahay... this is caused by that freakin' gay-o-meter!) don't starve yourself also, it's not only the fat that the body eats... the muscle is also depleted... so, my suggestion? just do crunches everyday and pedal lang... you can feel it under that "healthy thickness of fat & skin" after some weeks...

don't try to be like something that is not real... having those fabulous abs are just for show... - hahaha. how true! but i just want to look proportional. i'm not aiming to get a rock hard six packer, i just want something that doesn't bulge too much. i'll take allegras advice of doing crunches on cool downs. - @ brus - i'm not a big fan of diets. hehehe. - @ patrick - balik dirt ako! hehehe. try out the technical single track in UP! also, watch out for bans, thena, and martin's feature on gameplan this monday (remember the day you were suppose to be there?) hehehehe. - pete and andy, thanks for the info. andy, you're my true idol. hehehe.

Crunches, crunches, crunches.. you can do this while watching tv specially during commercials. First do 3 sets of 10 -12 then gradually increase. if you do ride try to squeeze your stomach during stand pedaling. I usually do this and it help. But nothing can do better with proper crunches. Avoid lots of beer and rice. Its good but not healthy ;D ;D. Just keep doing and will see the results later . Goodluck..

I love the way you bunnyhopped then double jumped the side walk of Manny's store man, teach me how you do that cool trick. Seriously kidding aside. It's 2:35 a.m. Sunday early morn. i'm signin' out man I might go to Neo later then in the afternoon in PEYUPS. Catch me if you can.

Joes, don't loose those side airbags yet. I'm still enjoying pickin' on you! Hehehe! ;D
Kidding aside. Starving will only trigger your body's survival instinct to make you eat more if you are in presence of food.
True - Starvation (deprivation of nutrients) will eventually makes your body cannibalize those fat reserves around your belly AFTER 7 DAYS OF STARVING. Wanna take that risk of being a zombie during those days? Hehehe! I'll dare you do trials on empty stomach. ;D

Starving isn't going to work. Your body will initially go after your muscles, then your fats after some time. My suggestion is to crosstrain. Your body can get used to a specific workout and the gains become less. If you go to the gym, try circuit training. It does wonders for stamina and muscle toning.

i did some cross training last saturday. i guess the inital muscle pain from running prevented me from bike practice the following day. hope my body gets used to it. it seems that running uses a different set of muscles as to biking. silly me thinking i could run like i wanted to. ;D

try to avoid carbonated drinks, as in softdrinks and beer. and if you're going to work out your abs, remember that you also have to work out the "complementary muscles" which is your lower back to prevent injury... i can't remember the term for it, but examples are... if you work out your biceps, you also need to work out your triceps, if youwork out your quads, you need to work on your ... hamstrings (?) too.

Hello, everyone...
Isn't the biceps the agonist muscle & the triceps the antagonist muscle? Moreover, your quadriceps would also be the agonist & hams, the antagonist... so on & so forth...
I think that's what you're trying to say... Only if my memory serves me right though.
Cheers!
