A few months ago i felt pain in my legs but I couldn't put my finger on it. I had a few doctors see me then it got worse and worse. The pain started to radiate from the hips down to my leg (left). I few weeks ago I went to se an orthopedic surgeon at the Spine Center in the PGH. After some examination he gave me some medication and gave some exercises to follow. I havent gone to get a second opinion but I wish I had. I was browsing a few minutes back and I found this article: SCIATICA (pronounced si-ad’-i-ka) www.backfrompain.com/back-pain/sciatica/about-sciatica/non weight bearing like trials? wow ive diagnosed my pain (kidding) Wow does that include medicinal plants? Somebody here might be feeling the same or might feel something like this in the future. This article may help you out. One mistake I did was resting, when I stopped using my bike for a couple of weeks more like less than two, the pain progressed.

Hmmm...So I'm been doing the right thing all along.
I have the same problem for the last 13 years. It happen when my son just a year old old when I did a squat without warming up. I visited many different doctors, orthopedic, xray, cat scan, MRI, bonescan (arthritic test) but cant fine the problem. It will reminds me the pain and get worse if im being couch potato. But never feel the shouting pain down to my legs though. Since going to the gym to strengthen my back and keeping my body a tone, visited chiropractor and massage therapist once in while the pain will go away. I feel way better now than when I was younger. By way my doctors subscribes medication for the pain but never took them because I'm scared of the side effects. I used over the counter pain medication once in a while. At least the effect is milder in the stomach. Only taking them if I really needed.

hmmm. sounds like the pain in the right side of my neck a few months back. I noticed it first after landing near a tree in UP and guess what i was so fixed at not hitting it, next thing I knew I colided with it, almost head on. I felt ok until after a week, I just woke up and felt this weird stiff neck. I couldn't hardly move my neck. Lest get up out of bed, my wife had to pull me up every morning. My doc recomended a Chiropractor (did i spell it right?), i was diagnosed with pinched nerve, I was about to sched a session until i got a second opinion and our other doc recommended otherwise ( ). I was confused and remedied it with some pain releavers for about two weeks. until i got tired of feeling loopy and just rode my way out of it, with moderate play for the first few rides of course. Guess what? it doesn't bother me anymore. ei Pat, I think medicinal plants wouldn't be prescribed by a doc. hehe

Sir Patrick, NEVER NNEVER SELF-MEDICATE sir even if you're on the brink of frustration. Just curious, what did your M.D. say? Where there any adjuncts done--MRI, X-ray, or the like? You never mentioned of any diagnosis kasi. Purely pain and no numbness?

The doctor said its not a slipped disc, but at that time I had severe backpains and his examination probably gave him that conclusion. The symptom of sciatica wasnt apparent or much felt because of a more severe lower back pain. He gave me some painkillers and prescribed soem exercises. He didnt find cause to have an MRI or Xrays. Based on what Ive read so far, doctors could usually find the cause just by physical examination (ie bending the body and locating where the pain comes from), so I trust him. However since I saw this info only yesterday, I will go back to the same doctor soon. BTW I was refering to self medicated 'herbal' solution

i guess the same thing happened to me when i tried getting new born baby daughter from her crib. i had to bend down really low...i heard "tick" as if something from my lower back had snapped...it was the start of a pain i thought would never leave me...for months the pain was constant...then slowly faded away...only to return every time na napwersa ko..almost a week uli yung pain every time...i learned to put a foot forward to support myself everytime i need to pick up something...more than five years narin na di ko naramdaman...i think my back and abdominal muscles are also stronger now than the time the it happened to me.

Its supposed to cure itself (unless its a severe case), they say you can most likely to slip a disc picking up paper than falling on your back hard.
Stronger muscles in that area definitely made the difference.
Ive gone through half the day without pain meds so i guess im getting better atleast.

Did you guys know..most people experience back pain it will experience it again. The best way is to strengthen your back and carry stuff on right knee and back position.
Patrick..if the pain still doesnt go away try to visit a chiropractor or get massage and get xray at least. Good luck brad.

Good luck brad. i agree. ...get a chiropractor, there is one in ortigas - he does most of the PBA players. Just don't have his name with me right now, sorry. I'm sure he woun't be hard to find (inital and only consultation required is P2,500, it's a one time thing) ..or do not bend your back to carry something, bend your knees as in like doing squats.

LBP due to sciatica is very common in our sport.Best thing to do is to see an Ortho/Neuro MD to check your spine(lumbar) and to check on what precaution you need to observe.Typically for LBP due to sciatica, they do hamstring stretch, heating modalities like hot packs on your back and hamstring, postural ex. and traction either thru traction machine or a inversion table.I usually do the hamstring stretch and inversion table daily for prevention of this kind of problem.
