Any body here has an experience on a Kleptomaniac?
I know someone who is sick of Kleptomaniac; he was steeling things from his friends, and he said that he can’t help it. All his friends wanted to ignore him and not make friends with him and I thought there must be someway to help this guy…

have him get psychiatric help. again, it's probably not out of bad intention that he's stealing stuff, it's just the way his brain is wired that makes his hands 'malikot.'
can still be friends with him of course. just reduce occasions wherein he can pick up stuff.
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia (Redirected from Kleptomaniac) Jump to: navigation, search Kleptomania ICD-10 F63.2 ICD-9 312.32
Kleptomania (Greek: κλεπτειν (to steal) + -mania) is an inability to resist impulses of stealing. A person with this disorder is compelled to steal things, generally things of little or no value, such as pens, decorative pins, or wall decorations. They are often unaware of performing the theft until some time later.
Kleptomania is distinguished from shoplifting or ordinary theft, as shoplifters and thieves generally steal for monetary value, or associated gains and usually display intent or premeditation, while people with kleptomania aren't necessarily contemplating the value of the items they steal or even the theft until they are compulsed.
Although a kleptomaniac may steal uncontrollably without realization, judicial courts in the United Kingdom and United States generally do not accept kleptomania as an affirmative defense. [edit]
Treatments
Kleptomania has several different treatments. Behavior modification therapy is used for people with 'kleptomania', as well as family therapy.
Some medications that are used for people diagnosed with kleptomania are fluoxetine, fluvoxamine, paroxetine, sertraline, lithium, trazodone and Valproate. [edit]

I know that this thread has been sleeping for quite sometime already, but I was a victim of a klepto. Saw the guy take it, but did not make an effort to confront him. When I sent out word that I lost something, the guy even approached me to talk to about what I lost and it's value.
After that incident, I met someone who knew him way back and told me that he was really known for being a klepto. He even stole a lot of items from the house of his best friend.
Question is....how can you continue to be friends with someone whom you can't trust?

sir, pardon me but how did you know that he's a klepto and not just somebody who takes advantage of other people's trust? I'm not an expert in pointing out if a person is klepto or otherwise. All I know is I've met several childhood friends of this person and the stories (Chronic talaga) are all similar. I really can't go into details about the incidents because I don't want to put the person on the spot. I've seen enough of flame threads in PinoyMTBiker.

he he he
Basta just be extra careful with your belongings. On the other hand, I haven't heard any news about the person for quite some time now, I do hope that he has reformed.

you can still be friend with this guy suffering from kleptomania as long as you knew the elements of crime. there are three elements of crime;1. Element of Desire 2. Element of Opportunity and 3. The skill of the perpetrator. As long as the No. 2 is absent you can still be friend on him, the element of Opportunity.Have a nice day

It's an illness... try to understand those affected with it... even better be the one to adjust for someone who suffers... and @ wheelie25 I don't think that it's a good idea...he/she isn't in a state that he/she is in absolute control of what she/he doing... why not catch those people who do bad deeds within their reasoning instead...right???
