I've now been training at the Phil. Army Gym for a month now trying to get my wind back and release some post partum stress after my wife's pregnancy.
I've been seeing this huge guy who trains with some workmates once in a while. Lo and behold, it's Baboinsky!!! Nice meeting you brad!

We're there T-Th-S. We will try adding Wed starting next week.
Try squeezing in another day. That should 50% more to your training time. Try adding more rounds too to mitts and bag. Punch until you can punch no more.
Maybe we can spar in the future. I dunno if I can reach your head though. One hit from you and it will be lights out for me. Ok, I take that back! I will have to invest in a DH full face helmet before we spar. Ü

I pretty much get a face full of mitts from Ramil for lowering my guard when extreme fatigue sets in. I'm not match for your hand speed if ever we spar. ;d

Honestly Baboinsky. You've been in my mind lately that you are into this boxing thingy.
Awesome.
Unbelievable.
How can a giant of a bear dabble into this most intensive sport workout and come out still as same bubbly chubby baboinsky that we all know?
But again, the best of heavyweight champions in real life are the nicest, meekest, kindest characters that won't even swap a fly.

Just like mountain biking, I put fun before everything else. I'm not going to make a career out of it anyway. You're definitely right about the temperament of big boys. I had the pleasure of training with one of the few heavyweights we have in the Philippine team. He was really humble and well-mannered. I was surprised to see his list of accomplishments when I Googled his name. I’ll try not to piss him off though ;d

Sir Marvs, where is Phil. Army Gym located? I also box at Red Corner at least once a week. But Red Corner dint renew their contract with Intercon so they transferred our account to Red Corner Holiday Inn at Ortigas which is quite a hassle since I work in Makati. Thanks

If you're coming from The Fort/Market market, it's just along the main road of Fort Bonifacio. You will pass the Fil-Am Cementery and Army Headquarters. The Army Gym is located in the corner of the Bonifacio Main Road and the road that leads to C5 (maximum security jail of fort bonifacio). If ever you see a big ss tank on display on the right side of the road, that's already the Philippine Marine headquarters. You need to turn around na. Here's the google map Link of the gym www.army.mil.ph/Welfare2/wellness_center.htm

Dear God in Heaven, for any reason, may I never end up in the ring with P.A.! PLEASE!!!! hee hee Hahaha! me too brad. Hi PA, are there bike racks or even just bolted bar and poles in there where we can chain our bikes? Is it safe to leave our bikes there? It'd be nice to ride to the gym, kind of a warm up for the work-out.

Yup, I've seen some of the Army folk bring their bikes inside. There's a steel fence you can chain the bike to beside the gym. I hope we can see more PMTBers train there. A nice leisurely ride in Fort Boni is a gret warmup. Don't overdo it tho and save enrgy to box.
It's the cheapest place to box in town. Besides that, the trainers are great. A couple of former national team members (one is the URCC bantam champ, although he's hard to catch since he's been busy training himself). Two others are still boxing but not as actively for the Phil Army in amateur meets.
They open at 8am. Just go to the weights room and ask for Ramil if you don't see people in the boxing gym side.
PA - Hand speed? You only need to tag me once and it's over for me!!!

Marvs,
Last we met at PeYups together with Kukai, I thought you were very physically fit for PinoyMTBiker.
SusMarYosep. Look at you now!
Boxing and mountain biking. The physique it builds is smooth, fast, and sexy.

Went back home to Gerry Penalosa's gym in Multinational Village Paranaque. I dropped 10+ lbs and improved my fitness a lot. I also learned more there in the past 3 months than the last couple of years in different gyms. I get trained by Gerry's older brothers and got tips and encouragement from Gerry himself when he's around. He just opened another gym in Marketplace Mandaluyong where his older brother Jonathan Penalosa (former WBC International Flyweight champ) will be the head trainer. I was told former Olympian Arlan Lerio will be teaching too. Check it out! So that's why I haven't seen Coach Jonathan in the gym lately. He used to be my coach. Now I'm training with Coach Toto (Gerry's brother too), though I haven't been going there lately (too busy ). Marvs, hope to see you one of these days. Maybe you could teach me some of your sparring moves. ;D Will start training again tomorrow.

The gym hasn't been beautified with your presence for sometime. Your workout time is early for me. I'm usually still at work when you're there. I give coach time to rest after the beating you give him (10 rounds of mitts!). I'll try to drop by early sometime. Jonathan was busy training Gerry for his last fight (assisted Freddie Roach in the corner). He's also training Mike Farenas for his 3rd US fight. I will be at the new gym tomorrow with Jonathan for a change. I hope to catch Mike Farenas sparring and learn some stuff.

I had a great training session last Friday. Warmup exercises 4 rounds shadow boxing 6 rounds punch mitts 6 rounds heavy bag (with Gerry holding the bag and teaching) 2 rounds speedball 2 rounds double ended bag 2 rounds skipping rope I skipped the ab exercises that day because I didn't want to be too sore for the duathlon next morning. Gerry tweaked my technique a bit and gave me tips and taught me drills in improving my weak points. World champion advice! Chino Trinidad interviewed Gerry on the same day with us training in the background. Mike Farenas training with Gerry and Chino Trinidad looking on. Me doing mitts with Jonathan Penalosa. Mike and I box alike (I'm the slow motion version). ;D

Though I still weigh more than what my face shows. The gloves are ones I bought for my wife. Adidas training gloves made for the Beijing Olympics. Gave it a test run and had it autographed at the same time. When do you usually drop by at the Army gym? I'd like to visit sometime to see PinoyMTBiker's Super Heavyweight Champ! ;D
