Mam whoopi is right, using a heavy gear can make you even faster. I already did this before, there are times I use a heavy gear on short uphills on my daily ride, this really helps me a lot.

How do you feel when you're moving at 80 kph??? Adrenalin rush? I suspect, but when you see one of your riding buddies flying on the air with his bike, and landing head first followed by his bike falling on him, then the Adrenalin rush is gone. It's OK to ride fast, but make sure to ride safe as well. Anyway, if you really want to ride fast, the best is to use the smallest cog and the biggest crank that can fit your crankset. Combine it with a fast spin. then you'll know how it feels to ride 80+ kph on a downhill. Whoopi already said it, the secret to riding fast is to have strong legs and learn to spin at a higher rpm (cadence). That's how we do that during our time. Hope this helps.

One of the best ways to improve your riding is to go with someone that is faster than you, this really works just recently lang i had a new pal we rode to antipolo it was his first to ride that mile but this guy was a speady freak he really knows how to zip his bike in a middle of a traffic jam astig sumingit bilib na bilib ako nice one kuya jcguray!!!!

Regular training and right gear ratio will make you faster.
for climbing uphill..... make sure you shave your tummy or unwanted fats.
bike must be less than 20lbs for downhill..... make sure you have a lot of rooms for fats in your tummy.
gravity needs your body weights....hehehe
bike must be 30lbs +
and most of all ......forget your inner fear but ride safe
but sometimes fear also help us go faster especially stray dogs is on the loose

how to ride fast-- ride regularly, it really isnt responsible to say to a newbie to let go of his brakes so he can catch up, practice control first before speed
just my two cents
