Haven't had a ride yet as it is a busy weekend but all I can say is that it's lighter and larger than the current saint platform and the pins are huge AF, which I love BTW. Pedals came with the short pin installed and replacing them with the long ones was boring... 40 pcs BTW. Some TLC is required as the threads are small and easy to mess up specially the pedal body. The only low I see is that the spindle is using a plastic proprietary nut, which if I had seen head on won't get this pedal. Hopefully the japs will release a revised spindle that can replace this that uses a non plastic non proprietary tool adapter. For DIYers a magnetic parts bowl is very useful.

The only new shimano pedals i’ve seen locally are the new saint spd and this one. the s/m version of the xt isn’t available yet and the one you posted as well. btw, the picture you posted isn't the new saint. this is their entry level pedal (ala non-series ba). the new saint looks entirely different

not sure if the entry level gr* pedals are already available locally, but between this and the pd-mx80 saint, just get the saint.

Not sure about these new models, but the Shimano flat pedals in the past (the heavyweight Saint included) were usually shit. Spindles weren't durable, didn't have sealed bearings, no spare pins, narrower than a soup spoon, and they weigh a ton. Caveat emptor.
If you want decent and light flat pedals, look for the Six Pack Millenniums. Good weight, lots of spare pins given, has sealed bearings, and with a really wide platform (as wide as Deitys). Best of all, good price (bought mine at Bike One for ₱2k). Same quality and durability as Deitys, Spank, and RaceFace but at half the price.
Mine are over a year now; survived multiple pedal strikes, rain+mud, and even sub-zero temps.

Mine are over a year now; survived multiple pedal strikes, rain+mud, and even sub-zero temps. in my case, i busted the spank oozy trail after a year of use. pedals have been clicking. when i opened, the bearings are shot and the igus bushing is already lose. worst part is there's no service kit available locally and yep i've called up the local dealer in BGC. the bearings are english dimensions and aren't available locally as well even in the bearing shops in around aranque. if a platform pedal has metric bearings available locally, i'd get them, but still i'm stuck with the igus bushing that wears out over time. but i did love how wide and supported the feet are in the spanks. oneup alloy pedals have cartridge bearings inboard and outboard. not sure about their dimensions though. it's got good reviews but i'm still skeptical about how long the small outboard bearings wear out the alloy body of the pedal itself. yea, shimano pedals are primitive in terms of weight and design, though i haven't busted my mx80 from before. spindles were still good. what i didn't like about the mx80 is that i still find the platform area on the small side. i feel some numbness in the arch on prolonged dh. and yes pins in the mx80 are on the short side even when washers removed. on the flipside i do like the cup and cone design of these pedals - agricultural as they are, but servicing is easy though more frequent than the cartridge types, just like hubs. i did hear that the earlier generations of mx80 have sh*tty spindles. so far the later ones are ok. i'm still abusing the m8040 and can't comment on it's durability yet, though i might say that the lock nut (plastic) is going to be it's achilles heel (d*mn, if i only noticed that before buying). i did expect more (ie metal lock nut). also strange shimano has released a hex version of this lock nut and a proprietary one.

I'm using an inspeed pedal (bought for 900php) but d@mn I'm regretting rushing for it when I saw a pair of DaBomb barebones being sold on another store. Demmmm....
