narrow rims w/ fatter tires suffer from lack of lateral stability, so they tend to "fold" sideways at lower pressures. you'll actually feel it when it does that. so w/ my 2.35 tires i use vision s.o.s. rims w/ 31mm outer width

each manufacturer has their own chart as to which tire width should go to their rim. one thing to consider is that this is a range and not a 1:1 pairing. regardless, if you intend to build a wheelset, go for 32h as there are more options to choose from for hubs and rims.
i'm using 29x2.35 on an i25 rim. i run at relatively higher pressures so i'm ok with it.

here's my other bike w/ 2.35 tires, jetset down Z 40mm outer width. the width is a bit overkill i have made it a point to buy 36h only for consistency, so right now i use 1 pair alex XD-lite. 2 pairs vision SOS. 1 pair jetset DownZ. all 36h coz i like the cheap stuff it seems these days the nicer stuff are 32h only

I doubt the OP can do speeds where it will be. Note that 23mm was considered wide back in the day and were partnered with tires as wide as 3.0 (i.e. Nokians).

Best to use those 40mm rims with really wide tires.

How wide are “really wide tires”?
2.5-2.8 ba? 😔

2.8 - 3.2 are considered plus tyres. I'm currently rolling on 3". You may look at Stan's WideRight concept for rim widths vs tire widths.

Confirm mo muna yung internal width. Found this online, but I can't vouch for the legitimacy of it.

Nakabit ko na yung rims. Ok pa naman sa clearance. Keri pa pala. Lumapad ng konti, now ready to roll na sa kahit ano haha. Going tubeless na in the future pag nagkabudget na. Woo. 😁
