u dont hav to huck at low speeds brother let the suspension do its work...... Hucking is compressing your fork down as it hits the obstacle then pulling the bike to its balance stance as you prepare for the next obstacle....results may vary depending on speed, angle of entry and result. U ever notice how your bike just swallows sidewalks even the high ones as u hit it with some speed and proper shifting of body weight? ganun yun kaya lang eto sa hucking sunodsunod na banketa kelangn mo tulungan yung bike para maka usog sya forward ng mas mabilis..

i'm not aware of your "hucking" term Bud, but i think this guy is asking about hucking as in taking off from a ramp or a drop.
if it's super slow then u can always wheelie drop it. u have to be comfy with this coz if u screw up your front will drop faster than the rear... and we all know what that means. if a little faster u could pull up on the handlebars just before it takes off, others pumps it on this same spot to compress the front and then gets more pull from the front. again, u have to time this right or you will head to mother earth nose first.
bud?

that's what i'm trying to say, ramp up then drop, medyo nabibitin ako pag maiigsi ang tatakbuhan lalo na pag medyo mataas ang drop kasi wala akong buwelo... and di ko makuha yung technique na bombahin yung fork, all i do is pull the handlebars.... and hoping makuha ko rin yun someday... tnx

the other thing i would say, and of course u have to practice this first, is to push on your handlebars forward just as the front wheel comes really close to the edge of the drop... at the same time as u do this your body moves back to the rear of the bike. it puts the weight to the back so the front doesn't come down faster than the rear. BUT before u land... centre yourself back in or you'll lose control since most of the weight is in the back. something Bud explained here or somewhere else b4 i think. so it's like a 1-2 motion... 1) push bike out of drop... once bike clears 2) pull it back to you... and hopefully land w/ both wheels. say for example u have this drop more than 3' where u can obviously do an endo if u go head first... u go for it... but at the point of no return u notice that u may not have enuf speed... this is what i do. if i dnt manage to bring the bike back towards me b4 i land... still better than going head first.

i would have to disagree Bud. trial riders are dropping like this all the time and most of the time unto flat concrete ... if u have land, say with both wheels ur "travel" is limited by your legs... pero if u land w/ the rear wheel first, such in a wheelie drop, u have that extra movement of controlling the impact by the movement of the front wheel as it goes down. the same concept to when u jump (without a bike, just you) on a small cliff, upon landing you're suppose to roll. same din sa parachuting.
back in the old days, riders are wheelie dropping most drops.... ngayon they are just hucking off them. why? FS bikes myb? pero the old school riders.... that's what they use. watch the north shore series movies... the first few ones always have them, after that mostly wala na.

Yung grupo na nga lang nila dangerous dan ang natirang nag wheelie drop..........lahat hucker na! malamang dahil nga sa fs technology.............pero sa trials pareho lang naman eh.........

i read this in pinkbike, i thing it means just plain going off drops, jumps, techy sketchy stuff. there's no specific way to huck. there's no specific speed, or height, whatever. its like a universal word for freeriding. thats what i read, hirap lang hanapin ung link.

labo .. ang alam ko hucking is just like freeriding .. you just huck off everything ...kahit wheelie drop pa yan or manual to drop .. yung group nila dangerous dan is called the flow riders .. and dehins lang sila ang natitirang nagwwheelie drop .. nauso lang kasi ngayon yung mga big gaps kaya kailangan may speed na when you huck off a drop or a ramp ..

Hucking is a Canadian term(Northshore) for doing drop off's or step downs with or without a gap, to a tranny or any receiver. I think Austrailians do not like the word huck or huckers.
Huckers don't like dropping to flats. As oppose to trial riders who drops to flat with a hardtail. Just like Bender, who has a trials background.
Because it originated from freeriders I think you wud be better off hucking with a freeride/DH frame. A strong one if you have a hard time landing with finesse on your first tries.
If you use a FS bike. It wud be better if you try to land both wheel at the same time or the same angle as your receiver. You can land rear wheel first but it shud be followed quicky by your front wheel . Why? If your rear suspension will take all of your impact it will rebound so hard it will throw you over the handlebars. Aside from blowing your rear shocks...
Note: If you use a FS with long wheelbase you need more effort clearing a drop at slow speed.
If you use a hardtail (dual,4x,DJ) it is better to land rear wheel first followed quicky by your front wheel. Your legs will absorb the first impact, which act as your rear suspension. This requires more technique on landings. A little like trial riders do.
If you want to learn to do drop offs/step downs better start small and a good room to get some speed (just enough to clear the lip). But not too fast. In the end, it is more of technique than equiptment. Pre load or pump your fork about 8-12 inches before the lip of the drop. This will help you clear your bike off the drop. Whether you are doing a 2' drop its the same technique as doing 10'+. Its a matter of getting used to being suspended in the air. Then on landing absorb the impact and control the speed(you will accelerate).
