Hi guys, I picked up this frame a few weeks ago. It's a Look full carbon frameset, includes the king headset, size 50. Very clean no dings, seems well taken cared of by the previous owner. I'm new to road bikes so I plan to use this mostly to train but majority of my riding will still be on my xc mtb...but who knows, I might ride this more often...he he. I think I'll keep it for a long time so I don't mind spending a little extra for it, but since its a old frame and I wont be using it as much as my mtb, so is it still worth the extra money...that's my dilema. What's your thoughts on it? Will you build it with Record or Force or other? I'm kinda leaning towards Force but still undecided. Hey, maybe I'll wait to see what Santa brings this year...hehe. My wife didn't think it was a great centerpiece, but I beg to differ... at least until its built up...he he..

Hi Sir,
Congratulations! That's a classic carbon Look frame. If I have that one and have the money to spend I'll put Campagnolo Record on it or a Shimano Dura Ace. I'm sure you'll be riding more of it the day you first ride on it.
Best regards and good luck to your project.
See you on the road!

nice! i liked those -81 series bikes up until the 381. Record is more expensive, but Dura Ace and Force are around the same price. you cant go wrong with any of those. just depends which shifting mechanism you like best. you'll have more wheelset options with a shimano-compatible cassette though. i've havent tried them yet, but on looks alone i'd say try the sram force gruppo so you get some carbon parts (crankset & Levers) to match the frame, plus you'll do everyone a favor by being able to review it for us hehe.

I'm more used to seing a Look /Dura-Ace combination, just like the Credit Agricole Pro Tour Team bike.

I agree with rt, it's not a Bianchi or any other Italian bike so go with Shimano DA.

I agree with rt, it's not a Bianchi or any other Italian bike so go with Shimano DA. This has sparked vigorous debates among cyclists: which frames go with a Campy, which go with Shimano. Some say that Italian frames automatically take a Campy. And one bike shop owner said that it's very difficult to sell a Colnago with DA gruppo on it. Some say all European frames should take Campy. Some say that frames with Italian BB threading should take Campy. Some would say it's price range: high end parts for high end frames, regardless if it's Campy or Shimano. But I say it's rider preference. Whatever makes you ride your bike more often, that's where my vote goes.

That's true dennism, but campy, shimano, sram, suntour, etc...whatever you have on your bike you should ride anyway. In my opinion, I guess also because I have Shimano on my Calfee, my suggestion is go for Shimano. A couple of friends have Campy Record on their rigs and if you've been riding Shimano and do not want to learn Campy shifting, then stay with Shimano. But hey, like I said, whatever grouppo you have on your bike shouldn't dictate how much you ride, you should ride regardless.
