If indeed it's a crack, babay na yan. Some CF's though may sustain a scratch that looks like a crack. Look at it carefully. Better yet, bring it to a good bike shop.

i think that's what i have.the pic is not in close up though.. so how do u know if it is a crack or just a scratch? Tap it lightly with a metal rod (i.e. screw driver) on the suspected area, then on the unaffected area. If it sounds different (the cracked area should sound like blunt), do not use it. It's cheaper to buy another one than having another hole in your a$$. Hope that helps.

it's against the grain of the fiber, plus, if it was just a scratch, it would be around the area where the post is clamped and would be superficial (only on the clearcoat). even if you're in doubt you should probably replace it first. i think that's what i have.the pic is not in close up though.. so how do u know if it is a crack or just a scratch?

sir sabi sa park tools website, "if you can stick a razor blade on a suspected cracked on a carbon fiber frame or in your case seatpost, chances are it is a crack."

Carbon fiber cracks would often discolor/fog the laminate unless you are using "naked" carbon fiber (unlaminated) discoloration is also indicative of stress areas which may also be a bad thing. THe tapping technique is a good and simple test to see whether it is cracked or just scratched, a solid sound area means that either the laminate has failed or the carbon weave has severed. Hope this helps...remember when in doubt, don't. Ride safe
