To Sir Janix, Re: im just wondering, how can your team join the pro tours? I hope Sir, This will help..... The UCI ProTour groups together the best races, the biggest teams and the best riders in the world. It is an international circuit with an individual ranking, a team ranking and a country ranking. UCI ProTeams have all obtained a UCI ProTour licence, giving them the assurance and obligation of taking part in all the UCI ProTour races. Only teams who respect a series of very strict criteria – sporting quality of their team, respect of ethics, legal and financial compliance – can benefit from this right. By ensuring the professionalism of all those involved, the UCI ProTour gives top level cycling greater stability and helps to improve the quality of the racing. 14 teams currently have a sponsor until 2008 and some for even longer, guaranteeing a degree of stability never seen before in cycling. New sponsors have signed up this year and others have expressed an interest for the future. Participation UCI ProTour races are open first and foremost to UCI ProTeams. UCI Professional Continental Teams, ranked second in the hierarchy and structures, taking part primarily in all races on their continental circuit and are able to ride in UCI ProTour races, but only if they are invited. Riders belonging to a UCI ProTeam are not obliged to take part in all the competitions. This would be impossible and the consequences would be damaging. However, each team must take part in all races, which ensures that the greatest champions will be competing throughout the entire season. As a result, we have noted that between 2004 and 2005 (the first year of the UCI ProTour), the participation of the world’s best 20 riders had increased by an average of 17% in races in the series. Individual ranking Riders belonging to a UCI ProTeam score points in UCI ProTour races based on the scale featured in the UCI Regulations (page 56). The leader of the individual ranking wears distinctive jersey and shorts. Riders who are part of a UCI Professional Continental Team do not score any points. The points corresponding to the place obtained are not awarded. Points awarded for stages are calculated on the last day of the race. The team time-trial does not award points to riders. Team ranking At the end of one-day races, points are awarded to the first 3 riders from each team. These points determine the team’s ranking in the race, which consequently determines the final number of points obtained by the team (see articles 2.10.004-2.10.007 of the UCI Regulations). www.uci.ch/imgArchive/Rules/2road-E.pdfTeams may also earn points according to their position in the final classification of stage races (according to the format established in 2005). Country ranking The country ranking is worked out on the basis of points obtained by the 5 first riders of each nationality in the individual ranking (art. 2.10.008 of the UCI Regulations).
