the chain when on the smallest cog will fall in between the chainrings when I downshift from the big to smaller chainring. I agree with woofers, and believe the crank is not the problem. I'm not the best mechanic, but give the group a complete list of your drivetrain. crankset: 105 (integrated BB? double or triple?) chainring size: 53/39? front der: chain: rear der: front shifter: rear shifter: cassette: personally I've never seen a chain fall between the two rings. I don't think there's enough room. please post a pic. It sounds like you have triple with only two rings. Are the two rings held on by the same bolt?

are there spacers between the chainrings making the gap wider? when I get home from work I'll check if I can squeeze a 10sp chain between my chainrings on my FSA crank.

compact cranks have a different bolt pattern than regular road cranks... 110mm vs 130mm, i think. someone please correct me if my memory is failing me. chainrings are typically 50/34 vs 53/39. crank lengths usually come in 172.5 vs 175mm. you can't put a 34T chainring on a non-compact crank.

compact cranks 50/34 usually comes in 110mm BCD (bolt circle diameter). common cranks 53/39 comes in 130 BCD. you are correct sir wcoastbo, you cant put a 34T on a non-compact crank. though i heard from someone that FSA has been manufacturing compact chainrings for the 130BCD cranks...

yup FSA makes as small as 48 for the outer chainring (130 BCD), but only 38 for the smaller "middle" one). still, the spacing between the big & small chainring is the same so the chain shouldn't get stuck between them, unless the spacing on the new 10 speed cranks are narrowe because of the narrower chain.
lenard, maybe you just shouldn't cross the chain (small ring, small cog).

You can try adjusting the "inner" of the 2 adjusting screws on the top of the front derailleur (this applies to FD-6600) by turning it anti-clockwise 3/4 turns, you should see the FD move inwards. If this does not happen, that means sagad na adjustment and thre's not much to do but look at other causes.

the chain when on the smallest cog will fall in between the chainrings when I downshift from the big to smaller chainring. Yup , I know I shouldnt do this pero nangyayari e Ah, you're cross-shifting! That's Bad! The small-small combination has the slackest chain, so the rear derailleur suddenly has to take up the slack. Probably the derailleur can't pull in the slack fast enough, so the chain falls down in between the chainrings. This is most likely to happen if you go from big ring to small ring while applying pressure on the pedals. Try softpedalling as you downshift.

If you look at the Shimano site , it says it wont match Sure it's bad to cross chain pero I usually lose count of my gears pag nahhilo nako When you find out , huli na , the chains stuck in between chainrings Pasensya na, it's a new bike and I'm just nitpicking Basta , shift nako ( pun intended ) sa ultegra 10 cranks - compact or whatever's cheaper anyone know how much it costs?

call Velocity for the compact Shimano cranks. the thing is, you may have to change your front derailleur as well because of the smaller chainrings. tel. 832-2352. regular Ultegra cranks should cost a little more then XT cranks. P8-10k? tawagan mo din si edmund sa all terra. he has a cheap Truvativ Touro compact w/ 50/34 chainrings, around P3k incl. bb, pero mabigat.

Salamat King for the Info
Tuwa nako , i bought 06 ultegra10 cranks at a big discount ( parang 105 hehe ) why is bargaining w/ lady shop owners a lot easier?
Brought the new cranks and the bike to Rudy Balbon in Las Pinas. Nawala ang tuwa ko when he told me it was unnecessary to buy new cranks , pareho lang daw ang 9speed and 10 speed cranks. Nasa mekaniko daw yun. Patay
He adjusted the FD angle and tama nga , the chain was shifting easily fromm the big to small Tama lahat ng nagbigay ng advice here sa PinoyMTBiker, and I and 3 other mechanics were wrong It was strange that I brought my bike to 3 different shops , dehins nila macorrect
anyway the new cranks were pretty so kinabit ko na rin, kaso di bumagay sa kulay ng bike hehe Mang Rudy also adjusted the headset, rear der, seatpost etc. The bike was so quiet, nawala lahat ng tunog. T@ng@ ko talaga e
To all 105 gruppo owners, if there's creaking sounds coming from your bike and dehins nyo mahanap , bring the bike to Mang Rudy. He's studied it . 3 other mechanics couldnt find it Kala ko sira na bb ko, May flaw ata yung design
