is anyone home? anyone, if there is.. il be reviewing my new purchased mount'n king 2.2. so ... its been like 2yrs sinced i upgraded my rear tire to a full xc race maxxis pace 1.95. twas fast, quick and abrupt.. nyway fastforward to yesterday and today... i shouldnt have bought this tire.. twas never my intention, i went out searching for a minion ss to be place at front, with a strong disappoint, the bike shop didnt have any. i couldnt wait, i got cold hard cash on hand, and yesterday was bike day. so i settled for this one.
snap it front, and went ahead. .... first thing i noticed on concrete, it is slow. it doesnt behave nicely. fastforward to a more technical stuffs, combi of muds, rocks u know. the usual trail. i think it did pretty good redeeming itself. it wont let you off the grid. but.. thats about it. it sucks up front. although it's understandable that it wasnt made to be there. so today, i swapped it at the rear. .... now we're talking. i think it did quite better sitting at the back seat. though i still need to do a lot of testing. i went down on some technical descent with combination of highspeed plane rocky trail, though it was fun it did grip well. but dont let that back seat driver take over you.... there are times wer it wanted to skid eventhough im going straight. i dont know if its the uneven trail but, its odd. i dont have this issue with my xc tires... but overall.. it was fun. i had fun pedaling it. nyway, i noticed after i wont home, i got the rotation at the wrong direction. maybe that was the coz of the skid. so i corrected it thwre after. nyway cant wait for next week again. lets see what this bad boy do when used properly. do you have anything else to say about ur new product. please share too. tnx!

im currently using a trail king 2.2 front and rear. on pavement its really on the heavier side but on the trails its an awesome tire to use. im also planning to try the mountain king 2.2 on my next tire.

the mountain king wont disappoint you to its intended use. but, i think it was an overkill for me. i have to sell it. actually its on bike tiange. will be opting for a much slicker tire and less knobs.

might want to checkout race king if you prefer conti line up.
thing is all that's left is a compromise between paved riding and off-road riding - one can't get the best of both since these have different characteristics and are from the opposite ends serving different riding conditions.
kung masipag ka magpalit best to change tires to whatever is required/optimal from the kind of riding that you do. this is more of a hassle and costly for tubeless owners, but if you're on tubes, you'll benefit from this approach. i don't have figures nor the experience on changing tires every now and then, but i'm guessing you'll end up saving a bit in the long run since you don't wear out knobby tires on paved roads.
i only use 1 pair - hrii and i always pedal on the way to the trails. yes it does wear quick this way, but what else can i do than to accept that reality.

plan ko rin is to have another set of wheelset just for trails. para yung knobbies mas matagal maupod. syempre mag invest naman ako for new rims/spokes/hubs/cogs/chain/tires/tubes. or just change the tires if im going to the trails para mas tipid. hehe

tnx for all the insight guys. im actualky planning to replaced it with wolverine, though it doesnt have that grip the mntn king provide, it sure is fast. my terrain is a mix of both tarmac, loose, technical descent and uneven roads. the mountain king 2.2 surprised me how much better it did on climbing. But what im really aftering is that smooth continuos pedaling. i know id be sacrificing a lot of grips during turns and downhill, but its that silky smooth feeling of not forcing your knees to kick harder when spinning your back end. my original plan was to purchase an ss minion and put it up front. yep up front. plus with anything that is less knobby at the back. btw my bike is not for hardcore downhill. it is just plain xc with an enduro in mind.

yup. my cuzn have that on his front and back. i was able to borrow it for almost a month from him. super fast and slippery. 😅 my trail kasi consist of long tarmacs depending on mood plus totally off road with technical descent everywknd. so i needed a tire not only fast during concrete, but could handle steep technical descent as well. ive modified my mntn kjng 2.2 na. it felt great knina. though i need to do somw runs tomorrow. tnx for referring.

on the thought of getting another set of wheelset for a dedicated set of rubber, it thought it might be worthwhile to use tubes (for TL users) for the rear since it has the tendency to wear more compared to the front.
the main reason why i don't want to change tires even just for the heck of it is that i am using TL setup and sealant is an added expense whenever tires are swapped. you can't recover 100% back whenever you swap tires.
so that's the tradeoff... use tubes at the back and TL in front. i think this will work for me. i don't see myself needing to swap front tires even if it's going to be a minion.

spyghost, i always use tubes with my bikes. but starting this year i added Zefal sealant at an added protection against flats. even my commuter bike has a sealant. as for me the added weight is ok. but definitely in the future i will be setting up a Tubeless wheelset. Maybe with my 1st Fulsus bike. :-)

thing i like most about the TL setup is that it's in a way a set and forget kind of thing as long as you don't get your wheels lacerated or your rims dinged - hence you still need to bring tubes. i must say some riders don't like TL for this reason - the need to still bring tubes. what i don't like about TL setup is i find it costly due to the sealant. when i first started it was just around 900/L. nowadays i think it's more than 1k/L. sealant dries up eventually, so if you got quite a number of bikes expect a dried up sealant in the next few months even if you don't use it. what i do like about tubes is the kind of freedom it offers due to the fact that like what i mentioned, you can change tires anytime you want. also, nothing dries up. air it and as long as it doesn't have any punctures, you're good to go. thing is, once you get a puncture, prepare for a trail side repair. there are certain disciplines that may not fully harness the benefit of TL like those that require high pressures like trials and dj, so they settle for tubes. though there are some trial riders who adapted TL. if you look at it from a certain POV, you can ride away without any wheel/tire specific spares/tools in a TL setup (though it's still not ideal, reason above), but for tubes, you can't and you shouldn't

Ey guys! Its well over been a month since i hastetily bought my mtn king 2.2. And heres my take. So i did had a lot of trouble trying to figure out what to do with my miss bought tire and, i know most of you wont consider doing what i did.. but, as long as it werks for me. Its fine. So my real issue with the tire was, it performed well where it is intended to be used. But the thing is, i bought it out of impulse, that last minute decision because u just cant wait to have a new tyre come wknd to try it out. So i paid the price of not being able to wait.
What i did was, i simply modified those nobbygrippy part of the tyre that kept dragging me while going on a hard tarmac. I trimmed those parts in order for me to have that same slick feeling when riding a slick tyre. Lil did i know, i have to sacrifice a lot of braking power. Almost cried there coz i thoughtit would be completely useless. So i tried to reversed it and.. it worked!
Now after a month used, its been ok. Not really great though.
Now on my front tyre.. this time i bought the ss minion. Which was speciifically made to be a rear tyre. I purposely, intendedly willingly use this tyre as my front.
So my next review will be... will the maxxis minion ss be a good front tyre for the mix tarmac, loose and a lil technical style of riding?
Will give the feedback comewknd!
