How do you deal with these people? I mostly encounter motorcycle riders and other cyclists as well.
What I do is slow down and stay on my lane. After that, they give me the stink eye and a few parting words.
hayy buhay...

I do the same. But I noticed counterflow is not as bad as before in Makati or BGC. The jeeps are still doing it a lot in Manila and QC though.

if it's a bicycle, i would point at the sidewalk. hopefully the other guy would keep as close to the sidewalk as possible.
if it's a motorcycle, i would position my middle fingers to rest on the brake lever then shake my head.
if it's 3 wheels, i would pull a little towards the sidewalk but the driver will get a mouthful from me.
if it's 4 wheels and it's a PUJ, i give the one finger salute and shout "haaaay ang talino". if it's a car, i shake my head and let go of the handlebar and show open palms.
thing is I do counterflow on some occasions but i make sure that i'm not a bother to other road users (pedestrians or wheeled).

so far i haven't had much encounters with these kinds of f00ls.
what i do encounter more often are those who hit the bars (intentional or not), even if i am on the bike lane. so far these had been jeepneys, tricycles and motorcycles in my list. what scares me most is that i can't prepare ahead of time since they come from behind.
it's not ideal as well, but whenever i can pedal on the sidewalk, i have to admit that i do this for safety. i'm slow on the road so that makes me 'a bit' friendly to peds using the sidewalk.
OT: what i do despise greatly among peds and even other riders are the use of earphones, which is aggravated by not looking ahead (i wonder what's with the road directly in front why they stoop down). sinisgawan mo na, di pa naririnig. ano pa ba pwede mo magawa kundi magbigay nalang kesa ma hassle pa.

if and when I do counterflow, I'll be on the sidewalks and doing prolly 2-4 kmh. And always give way to pedestrians as this is their turf.

as a daily bike commuter im also guilty in counter-flowing. but hear me out first. i only counterflow if the bike lane is already occupied by car/jeepneys/motorcycles. if anyone is familiar in marcos highway there is already a bike lane. so i use this lane going to work and coming back home. but in Delapaz/F Mariano Ave in Pasig. its just a two way street so specially in the morning rush hour i usually go to work by 7am. my shift starts at 9am. this is where i counterflow but whenever there is a car coming from the opposite side i give way and stop. since i know they have the right of way. so basically what im trying to say is that we just have to be sensitive enough to other commuters.

Since I live at the opposite side of marcos highway, I go up the overpass near delapaz to cross. So far this has been the safest route from my place icemann77 where you from BTW? baka nagkakasalubong tayo di natin alam

Aaah bike lanes.....i think there are only 2 of them that I use.
1) The bikelane along the bridge along bonifacio st. in marikina. 2) The bikelane in commonwealth along the fences of UP.
Other than that, I still use the road whether it's in Marcos highway or Bonifacio. It's easier to just go straight at 25 to 30kph on the road than doing slalom on bikelanes
Back on topic: be very careful of counterflowing private cars. you wouldn't know what they carry. that's why i just shake my head.

that one time i counterflowed on a congested sidewalk, the aleng nagbebenta ng basahan almost hit me with her basahan, as if she's not hoarding part of the sidewalk

i had my first experience of this earlier with a tricycle... no impact pero seriously gusto ko ihataw ang bisikleta ko sa driver (pun intended) it's the typical scenario where the tricycle crosses the street to pickup a passenger going to the opposite direction. alibi is crossing the street or u-turn, but given the direction, it's a legitimate counterflow.

Yeah that's the problem. People have all kinds of justifications for disobeying the law.

minsan nakakatukso na dalhin ko yung night stick, tapos ilalabas ko kapag may kasalubong. with the mindset na "bike ako kaya sumasalubong kayo, pero kung truck ako eh tatabi kayo". iniilagan ko na lang pero may one finger salute. iniisip ko na lang yung nabasa ko sa internet "never argue with an idiot, they will drag you down to their level and beat you with experience". totally not worth it.

Tama brad, it's not worth it.

Just last Sunday, pinarkingan yung bike lane sa may Lilac SSS kaya ayun slalom kami pero may tadyak sa bumper as we go around the car.
Counterflowing bikes, motor, trike or ebikes on my bike lane, I just stand my ground and stop. Either they go avoid me or they get stop in their tracks. Then they get a cursing from the motorist going my way.
