hi,
i am thinking of getting a low cost road bike frame and am wondering about these gts and specialized road frames that cost around 5 - 6k at cartimar that come with forks as well. are they any good? i don't want to spend a lot on a road bike and then find out later i don't like riding road bikes, so i plan to get something cheap so if i decide i don't like road bikes i won't have spent too much.
is it true that "semplang" is more likely to occur when riding a bike with compact geometry vs. traditional sizing?
any comments and feedback much appreciated.
thanks.
Mike

They are fine, if a little on the heavy side. The forks are usually aluminum, not carbon as you would get on a P20k Trek or Giant road frame, but they are OK for beginners. No.

get a Apache , GTS or MOB road frame na lang I have seen local pros ride the in the Tour ok naman. " www.specialized.com/OA_MEDIA/2003/bikes/03AllezCompFrame_d.jpg [/img]" this specialzedd Allez 2003 replica bike frame being sold at Quaipo for 4,000 with seat post and fork. Just buy a carbon fork at cartimar for 2,000 to 3,000 taiwan no name. Its the gruppo that is expensive the low end for the road will cost you 12k while the off road would only set you back 5k. Get the shimano wheels at Kings for 8k only rim, hub 24 spokes (i think)

that's 1 thing i don't get about road bikes, the gruppos cost so much compared to mtb stuff. Yung alivio, middle of the range, cost 5k +, 105, middle of the range for road bikes, 23k+. that's why i'm hesitant to spend too much on a road bike, and then find out I can't handle the more extreme riding position of a road bike.
are those 8k wheelsets, the shimano r540?

Deore is the middle-of-the-road for MTB, not Alivio. Sora - Acera Tiagra - Alivio 105 - Deore/LX Ultegra - XT Dura Ace - XTR The reason MTB parts are cheaper is volume of sales. In my experience -- after buying/building 2 road bikes and 4 MTBs -- they cost around the same. Sure, the grouppo is more expensive, but it will last longer since it's not exposed to the same elements and amount of stress that MTB parts are. You don't have to spend on a suspension fork or shock, either. Want to save a load of money? Get second hand parts. Hang out with some triathletes. They're always upgrading like crazy and selling their used stuff.

IMHO the reason that Road parts cost more then MTB parts is because of mass production. Shimano makes more MTB then Road parts as the latter has a larger market. When I started riding in 1989 my Road bike was cheaper then my MTB which was only entry level while my road bike was race level. If you are really in tight budget but you want quality parts go to Amari on Sundays or Cartimar and ask around for a second hand bike usually a roadie or a mechanic needing cash will sell you a good road bike for unbelievable price plus well maintained especially if the owner is a mechanic just make sure the bike fits you well. Yup I think the wheels set are shimano r540

I think MTB's are now getting more expensive because of the Frame and Fork.

get a Apache , GTS or MOB road frame na lang I have seen local pros ride the in the Tour ok naman. The Apache frames I've seen have the water bottle mounts on the BOTTOM of the downtube.

how much po ang gts frame? sora 8spd na gruppo or tiagra 9spd na gruppo? triple chainring po ba yun? my choice would be the Tiagra, a friend of mine bought a grouppo at around 8K discounted, I think these go around 9-10K. the Sora would be good, but is a mix of aluminum, steel and plastic (yes, plastic ) if you're a begginer, it would be wise to get a triple chainring set, much easier for begginers as road bikes have higher gearing....though hard to find I think... personally, I have a triple chainring setup....easier on going uphills....but thenagain, my frame is mix of steel and stainless...very heavy.. some LBS in Quiapo (i forgot the name) told me that those Shimano wheelsets sold for 8K are only rebadged GTS wheelsets, the GTS wheelsets cost 6-7K tops...they said the genuine shimano wheelsets costs 15K for the lowest model....but, that's just what they said, so don't account me for it.

Have you seen the pearl white color frame of gts? I kinda like it. Don't be afraid to invest on your road bike, I too had the same dillema when I was choosing on which parts to get, but based on my own experience I suddenly fell in love with road bikes as soon as I got to ride it. Ask fullspeed he's also in the process of upgrading hehe. any comments and feedback much appreciated. thanks. Mike
