in your current 3x9 set-up, how frequent you are using the biggest cog? if not that often, you're good with the 3x9... just save your money.
and depending on the model, there are 3x11 set that is lighter than the 3x9 alivio set.
IMHO, some upgrades are just due to hype, hehe!

hi hi hi, ako nga recently lang nag 3x9 eh, I've been running 3x8 for the past.....15 years.
regarding weight, yes mabigat ng konti, pero as a weekend rider, you probably won't feel it kasi malapit sa axis of rotation yung added weight. besides, if you're not running 3 chainrings, you're pretty much offsetting the weight by losing 1 or 2 chainrings.

he he, depende kasi yan sa gamit mo. like me, i rarely go to timberland kung saan gamit na gamit ang granny. pero alam kong gagamitin ko kaya naka 3x pa ako. if i could find a drivetrain na kaya yung or close sa gear ratio ng 22 x 30, i'll take it over the 3 ring setup.

sir walan naman problema ang 3x9 setup. Nag uupgrade lang to 11 speed kasi naghahanap ang mga bikers ng more gearing ratio, dahil ang karamihan ngayon ay naka 1x setup na.

tama si xmayor, 22 tooth chainring x 30 tooth cog. yan kasi ang gear combo ko when climbing The Wall.

ano ba advantage ng 1x11 sa 3x9?

|
Post by simplej0ys on Nov 5, 2016 5:25:31 GMT 8
some advantages:
- less things to set up - less things to maintain - less things to f**k up - more simple cockpit (handlebar) - save a few grams on weight

starting 3 x 7 yata, you have overlapping gears. on a 3x9, you're not using the whole 27 gears. you pretty much have about 14 or less usable gears and about 4-6 overlapping.

hijacking a thread ha, he he he, sabagay generic yung thread title.
1) bottom bracket bearings 2) pedals 3) seatpost 4) seatclamp 5) linkage (in the case of full suspension bikes) 6) misaligned chainring/s 7) saddle (in the case of seated pedalling)

2 x 4? anong tooth count ng gears na ginagamit mo? for some people like me na rapidrise ang RD, iba ang bilang 4th gear compared to conventional RD's.
and yeah...mahirap mag isolate sa forum kung dehins naririnig yung sound, he he.

comfortable ako sa 44x15 at 32x15 most of the time. sa trail unless talagang ahon, nun lang ako umaabot sa 20+ tooth cogs. 65% masher 35% spinner (kasi pagod na).

36T up front. I was previously running a Zee crankset with its default 36T chainring. (I'm now on a 32T RaceFace NW) The 36t will give you more top speed on the flats while the largest cog (assuiming a 40T or 42T) will be enough for decent climbs.

cool, thanks brad I was thinking of running a 2 chainring setup. then again, I'm thinking it's additional weight for someone like me who doesn't even climb that much. most climbs i do are pretty short anyway, he he he.

if you're not a hardcore climber then the 36T will do.

ano po ba magandang drivetrain? now using 3x9 alivio... pero sira na kasi kadena ko kaya napapaisip ako bibili ba ako ng kmc gold sl or mag palit ng drive train.

sabi nga eh...don't fix it if it ain't broke. kung sira yung chain...chain lang ang palitan. pero inspect mo na yung drivetrain mo kung meron nang shark tooth sa cogs at chainring. kung meron na, better palitan mo na ng buo.

wag kang ganyan brad Anthrax...

But I do more trail. And I think I should have gotten 32. Pwede rin you get 36 and 11 cogs 11-42t. Tapos kung kulang ka sa climbing power, Wolftooth has an upgrade to make it 11-49t.

oooh, wolftooth, he he he. question is, can the RD still handle the toothcount if I run a 36 up front?
|
|
|
Post by esulit on Nov 9, 2016 23:08:53 GMT 8
Good question. The wolf tooth website says that for shimano RDs you have to buy a wolfcage RD cage. I could not find any mention of compatibility with 36t. You can probably check w GTC tech guys also about it.

esulit, yeah, may friend ako na gusto lagyan ng big cog yung setup nya, unfortunately the manual on the Shimano RD said it could handle up to 42 teeth. Again I'm not sure how that computes with the chainring tooth count. simplej0ys, what i owned before was just a shifter and mech brake lever, but even the lever has it's own modulation. even yung mechanic sa Ross was impressed. the shifter was buttery smooth kahit anong RD ang ipares, from Tourney to XT. haven't tried an XTR RD though, sa bike ng erpat ko naikabit yun, he he.
