sierra madre is a great place to do road rides. smooth uphills, cool breeze, and very minimal traffic. not to mention mang vic's bulalo at the end of it, and they started selling buko already as well on that sari-sari after garden cottage. perfect reststop. sierra hotel is a nice picnic place also. we;re thinking of doing that ride the living legends din just after Sierra Hotel, but might actually camp there for the night (100/night/head)

you can try any aluminum 700c fork. i think there are forks from Kenesis available. you might find one with cantilever mounts as well. does your frame have canti mounts though? some road frames cant be converted to cross because they might not have enough clearance in the rear for the wider tires, and if hey dont have canti mounts, you wont be able to fit a wider tire in a road brake anyway. i think 28 is the limit for most road brakes. cross tires are 38-42. if you want to really go off road, just build a mountain bike. cross bikes arent really built for technical trails, or even rocky ones. the cyclocross courses are usually just hardpack and mud. i want to reconfigure my other road bike into a cyclocross...problem is i really dont know what type (any brand?) of fork will be suitable.
