Just saw this on the net. Fox and Shimano 15mm E-axle for 2009 Just when you thought there were enough axle/fork standards for mountain bikes (5mm QR, 9mm T/B, 20mm, 24mm Maverick, Lefty), here comes another. Fox and Shimano are planning to use a new 15mm standard in 2009 called the E-axle (or E-thru?). Supposedly it’s lighter and stiffer than a standard QR. We’ll have to see if other hub manufacturers will be allowed to play. www.pookgai.com/mountain_biking/141/fox-and-shimano-15mm-e-axle-for-2009/

You're right Jon, and all hubs maker back to the drawing board to jump on this new design/ technology.
It's easier to make or retain the same weight as with QRs, Big hollow axle and eliminate the skewers. or lots of machinig can be done with the hub itself.
remember the Specialized hubs before?
