Less grams, more glams.
Inferring from several forums, not too popular on the aesthetics department.
I'm going to stick my neck out and say that I utterly like it. And I think the hydraulic dual control lever looks marvelous in an engineering piston-ish sort of a way.
It's just me though...
When all else fails, read the manual.

Less talk, more walk
Most of these guys say they have this thing, but only a few of them can talk the talk and walk the walk.

Just came from Newton yesterday afternoon and I can't believe my eyes that they have the complete 07 set of XTRs. SUPER HIGH-QUALITY ANG FINISH TALAGA. I've asked if how much will they fetch. And they said, " They're NOT FOR SALE yet". Maybe, they're still waiting a go signal from Shimano Company.
ANG GANDA!!!!!!

What they have there at Paulina's until now are just prot0type models, AFAIK. My wild prediction would be spring break/ 2Q '07... ;D

Sir Jaymz,
I really have no idea what Shimano or Newton is up to. At this point, the latter's not telling me anything anymore but they're just waiting for the wheelset to complete the ensemble. In fact, the XTRs are there to be looked at and not to be touched even. Parang priceless museum piece kung baga. Kulang na lang lagyan ng sign saying, "admire but never touch......touch, you die."
Heck, they're not even accepting reservations! Mag-place nga lang ng order, denied pa. Super galing talaga ang marketing scheme.

Let's go here... Hehehe! "Ginamitan mo ng mod power, Sir Marcs!" That's why I can't reply there in the BNC section.Look before you leap___________________________________________________________________________________________hehehehehe looks like an XTR '07 is in the works . . . tried these babies at a bike show here in Osaka, and well, let's just say for a solid SRAM boy it got me thinking of going to Shimano. Aesthetics alone the consistent X design is just sexy. And the shifting is like clockwork. Not to mention you have a choice of either the DCLs or triggers, with the triggers allowing you to use either your thumb or forefinger to upshift. A simple trick but makes the triggers so much easier to use. Just to add to your exhilarating XP* @osaka bikeshow, the new system allows 2 gears upshift not just downshift alone unlike my old stuff. Trip down to memory lane, when I got so close that I couldav brought it home myself. I remembered what Michael scribbled in his blog: Today she came into my life... the 2007 Dual Control. Stronger, lighter, faster, newer... sexier. Sure, my old shifters and I, we have a history together, but they're just old now... ridden hard, a little beat up.
For now I'll stick with my old shifters I guess. They work and I'm not such a weight weenie that I need to save a few grams on my shifters. After all, my old shifters accept the fact that I have a few extra pounds too. No, 2007 Shimano XTR Dual Control, I'm not taking you home with me... but, we'll always have Vegas.Grrrrrrr!!! ;D *XP, eXPerience

ay sorry ah, special mod powers pala yun. have deleted my post there. pero yeah, if women have their jewelry, i guess we have our XTR No, it's just alright with me ( dapat dehins na)... Just felt handicapped there for a while since I can't reply in the BNC section right way, Sir Marcs... ;D Guess, it's really something to look at, I mean you could upshift 2 gears simultaneously... Whew! that's something, right? I think I'm missing something here since I have no idea even the slightest thing about the SRAM system... Can you do that? Enlighten me, fr1ends... TIA!

There are lengthy discussion elsewhere so di ko na ulitin, but I think SRAM's selling point are basically three things: 1.) the so-called 1 to 1 actuation ratio, which supposedly enables SRAM RDs to be maintain it's shifting performance even through mud and dirt. --> i have no direct comparison coz I've used a Deore only, and basically when the going gets rough, the Deore starts deteriorate in shifting performance. With every shift you get a clack clack clack clack clack . . . not to mention you have to tune it up often. With my SRAM X7, you maintain the clockwork shifting performance even in the dirtiest conditions. You just know it's going to continue to shift when you need it.
2.) RD design - won't hit your chainstay and direct route technology. The Deore just sounds load when going over the rough stuff as the RD hits the chainstay. It just moves a lot. The SRAM X7 is more solid, doesn't move around much to bang on your chainstay. The direct route technology also gives a cleaner look.
3.) impulse triggers, which enables you to shift only with your thumbs. for me this just feels better than the triggers of Shimano that used your thumb and forefinger.
Now, my experience is not apples to apples, as I have no idea how the higher end Shimano parts will perform vs the SRAMs, especially the XTRs.
What I did notice on the XTRs were: 1.) faster shifting. once you hit the upshift trigger, you get a shift. whereas before, you had to release the upshift trigger first before a shift happens 2.) that crisp feeling of every shift 3.) the unbelievable lightness, especially of that 20mm thru-axle! 4.) it's just so darn sexy, especially if you get the entire set! I mean, the SRAMs pretty much look the same for 2007 except for some changes. 5.) the 2 way upshifting design just feels nice. push it with your thumb, push it with your forefigner, nudge it here, nudge it there, shift! no matter what position your hand is in the handlebar, you can easily trigger off a shift.
But for me, it still boils down to shifting performance once thing gets down and dirty.
