taken from the santa cruz forum of fa components (local dealers of sc bikes in the phil) ...Way too excited how this looks ;D April 14th, 2005
Hello from Santa Cruz This is our second official SCB newsletter, and once again we have some big news. While we realize we may be setting the bar pretty high for the future in trying to keep this newsletter interesting and exciting, this news is too good to hold back.
Filling the Gap Riders familiar to our line up have most likely noticed a bit of a gap in the VPP model range. That perhaps there was a need for something more than a 5.3-inch travel trail bike like our new Blur-LT, but something less than an all-out 8.5-inch travel freeride bike like our VP-Free.
Enter the Nomad
Some might read this name and think of old Chevy station wagons. Others might think of lean people in sparsely populated regions who follow seasonal paths known only to their tribes. So, on the one hand, you have this sturdy and stylish cult classic vehicle. And on the other hand, you've got these long ranging, leathery skinned hard-asses who are made of gristle and can go forever. That sort of describes our new bike. Nomad. Taking a similarly stout approach as on the V-10 and VP-Free models, we created a frame with beefy formed tubes (very strong, and deco stylish) and meaty linkages delivering a rock solid frame with 6.5 inches of rear wheel travel. But we also kept the flab to a minimum, using a lightweight aluminum alloy for the frame and retaining a standard 135mm, q.r. friendly rear dropout spacing. It can be built up either as a do-everything, ride everywhere, long lasting middleweight or a rock crushing, cliff hucking bomber.
The Nomad is now in the final pre-production prototype stage and is expected to be available before the tradeshow season hits us in the fall. Final spec or pricing details are not available at this time, but we'll let you know when we've got it all finalized. Stay tuned

Now that's what I call an All-Mountain Trailbike. Sort of like the Reign with 6" front and rear, only a lot prettier.
I was drooling over the Blur LT, now this! Mauubos laway ko dito....
Now back to reality and clean my hardtail....

too bad they dont offer it with a marz AM1 can't u just buy the frame and fit it with whatever parts u want like the AM1 if u want to buy it built-up, u can always ask the bike shop ur buyin it from to swap out the fork. that's what i did before.

ei guys! the new Santa Cruz Nomad is on the cover of the July 2005 MBAction! ;D read R.C.'s answer on one of the tech question about the nomad... excerpts from www.mbaction.comQ. Hi R.C, Great review of the Nomad in the july issue ! Which bike do you think is the natural VPP successor to the Heckler, The Nomad or the new Blur LT ? By numbers, it looks like the blur LT is the closest VPP version of the Heckler, but by spirit, it looks like the Nomad is the one. What do you think ? A. RC: Definately the Nomad because, like the Heckler, it is capable enough to handle most freeriding stunts and still kicks butt on the trail. The Blur LT is a cross-country platform that mirrors the Heckler's mistake proof handling and has a similar "can-do" feel on technical trails. ;D

Let's not belittle Taiwan. Specialized, Giant, GT, Haro, Bianchi, Diamondback, Felt, K2, Haro, Jamis, Raleigh, Specialized, Storck and a whole lot more bike brands have their a portion of their frames, if not all produced in this country. They account for majority of all the frames in the world. Even Easton tubes used by high end bike manufacturers come from Taiwan. They are leading the pack when in comes to tool metallurgy, aluminum forming and practical use of materials like carbon, magnesium and scandium among others.
Among the list above, only Giant is designed by Taiwanese engineers. Everyone else designed by their home companies and have it outsourced in Taiwan, unless they also outsourced the design making.
Santa Cruz is an American company, designed in the US, made in the US by a Taiwanese owned company. So the Taiwanese only owned the factory that made it. They had very little to do in the design process. This same company bought and now produces Mountain Cycle in Portland.
Sana sa Pinas na lang ang lahat ng ito. Para mura at maganda pa ang bike dito. Para kahit local, maganda pa rin!
