RST or SR Suntour? ;D - Model? - The perfomance, how it plays on trails. - The weight. - Durability. - The looks. You decide what else to add. Note: This is not a competition between SR Suntour owners and RST owners. We have freedom to choose and compare what's better. ;D Non-owners of RST and SR Suntour are also encouraged to reply in this post. I know some riders who have tested these forks from their friend's bike, wife's bike, husband's bike etc.. So non-owners are welcome.

DNM. hehehe! joke lang brad. for XC i'd suggest the Suntour epicon. mainly because of its weight. although its also chock full of features (lockout/rebound/preload). the guys who swear by it also says its good for AM. with regards to the play, well check this out... for DJ... i'd suggest the launch by RST. cause its almost half the price less than the duro and is a capable fork for many applications. weight is heavy but looks are cool. its stiff, perfect for DJ. but if price is not an issue i'd go for Suntour duro. ;D

So Far I have both still, My 97 HT has RST, pure RST no model code just RST hehehe, and an old SR Sakae Suntour Forks installed on my Generic Aluminum HT bike, they are both immortal, coz up to now they are still functioning considering that 2 bikes of mine was used by my bayaw and my pinsan going to their office in San Pedro almost a decade na.

I go for Sr suntour. I had 2 Rst forks before. Now i am using sr suntour and i'm proud of it. In my experience sr suntour forks are way better than rst. The forks of rst are so heavy, the looks are good, they have those fancy stickers but the performance I am not satisfied. I dont need fancy stickers on my fork, what i need is performance... Now I am using a suntour rux on my full suspension and epicon on my hardtail. The botom line? With my experience I prefer sr suntour and would recommend it. ;D

I have 3 SR Suntour XCR's 2 of them the 05 models, and 1 06 model all of them w/ lockout manual. The two of them has 100mm of travel and one 120mm, a bit inaccurate though, they are all plush a bit like my friends high end fork.
My wife's bicycle has an RST Gila Pro Series 08 model, with turn and lockout knob, compression and preload. They are stiffer in play than the XCR's. Just the same I have liked them both.
Suntour and RST in my own opinion are at par. Have yet to see that RST that broke into half in the other thread that was mentioned there.

came across this scenario earlier this month..went to quiapo with a little budget and was looking for a rst launch fork... was able to haggle the price less than 2k..but when I got hold of it, it was a bit heavy, but it really looks good and was convinced of its performance after reading the thread, when I was about to purchase it, I saw some guy having his bike assembled and saw His new XCR fork being installed, I ended up going home carrying an XCR fork, although pricier than the launch it is more lighter, just wish it has the same stanchion color like those of the launch. So far So good..im now enjoying it..

for heavy weight go for the rst launch type model of fork, i'm sure it suited you most, i'd already using the rst launch for urban riding and it's great for riding if you use the right pre-load adjustment between negative to positive......

4.5k to 5.5k depends to the LBS i like both fork but their high end one only. i like the sr suntour Duro and rst space. but if i will choose between rst gila pro and suntour xcr, hands down to xcr. its the weight that separates them.. my friend bought a new xcr and its surprisingly stiffer than my old xcr. is the xcr w/lockout stiffer than the xcr w/ preload only?

Since i am very satisfied with how my SR Suntour Rux and Epicon performs, i will still go for the Rux and Epicon again when it reaches its service life. Going for the newer Rux and Epicon model.

I've had both in the 90s. Suntour XCP 95s and RST Hi-5 triple clamp. Love them for their minimum maintenance- elastomer kasi. No oils, cartridges, leaks, etc. to worry about. But that's just me. Tamad lang kasi ako mag-maintain.
For my present project, I'll use an RST Launch. I don't mind the weight- its still lighter than my old RST Hi-5. I love the bronze anodized 32mm stanchions. At saka tumaba na ako kasi kaya gusto mas beefy na fork- ha-ha.
