i like the looks of these brakes and the MTBR reviews are not bad either anyone would like to share their personal reviews and if someone would sell it to you for less than P9K (brand new) - would you buy it ;D Hayes HFX 9 Carbon Disc BrakesThe Hayes HFX 9 Carbon Disc Brakes feature light weight Carbon Fibre levers but maintain all the strength of the standard HFX 9. Suitable for Mid range Freeride and XC. Compact Dual Piston Caliper with semi Metallic pads for progressive feel and quiet operation. Reversible HFX-9 lever design for left or right use. www.mtbr.com/reviews/disc_brake_system/product_125287.shtmlIt's an excellent choice and the braking power is superb. I am using a set on my Giant NRS1 Carbon bike. I have actually bought another one - it's the Hayes 10th anniversary version of the HFX9 Carbon (chrome) and am expecting it by next week.

I have the standard HFX-9 hydraulics on an NRS CF, so far so good. Have not tried a long downhill yet though. The feel is confidence-building as you modulate the braking power on your hands.

I have a few sets of Hayes 9 carbons and they are a decent brake. Not much modulation compared to Shimano but the price is right. The best upgrade for the Hayes is to use Kool Stop pads (red). These pads add power and modulation at a decent price. You can keep the stock pads as a "backup". The Hayes are a pain in the butt to bleed however...

you can adjust the reach of the 9's by a little allen bolt (behind the lever from what i remember) that easily can get it's head stripped so be careful. i have also been successful in getting the brakes to feel like i want them (more pull on the levers instead of instant on) by removing some fluid from the caliper using a syringe.

I bought a Hayes 9 Carbon w/ 8" rotors... its a pre-bleeded unit. The feel of both lever is not the same (often found on pre-bleeded units). The right one needs bleeding (i guess ). Sad to say, I have no tools for it. I'll just drop by on one of the shops here and let it done by their tech. I used the reach adjuster so as to keep both lever feel equal. For the price, i bought it for only 1,400 rmb (8,200 php) for the set. Not bad at all for an 8" carbon system By the way, I started the break-in activity last night for an hour ride... added some urban drops. The brake system picked up its power about 20 mins ride w/ continuos braking... feather and sudden stop. So far, i kinda' like the modulation of this system as well as the feel of its carbon levers.
