Leonkilat, You're making a good choice in going for an orig reliable frame. Most of us bike for health not to cause our body harm. If you're on a tight budget here are links for mostly good second hand orig frame, hardtail or full suspension and even road. You can oft negotiate for their listed prices (unless its said fixed na)...well as in buying any products "caveat emptor"! Hope to see you on the trails soon, man! way i see it, you'd be spending the next one or two years with this frame, so what's a couple of more months and a few more bucks of saving to get the frame that you really want?
2nd hand FS frames can go down as much as 15k I think,

gdls11, yup you're right, we're in it to get fit and it's my wife who's been pushing me these past years to exercise. But the funny part is i can't seem to justify to her spending more moolah on a very good bike. My HT frame btw is 2nd hand so it's been taking a double beating but i invested on the deore groupset with v-brake way back 2004 (not sure of what type deore this is), bought 2nd hand front shocks too that i upgraded last year... to a brandnew but not-so-good shock with lock-out costing 3.5k, since i didn't know any better (just came across this board this month). Oh well, my wife hasn't seen the trails i've been too that's why (and i'm glad because she just might not allow me to ride them trails...for my health, hehe...) and she's wondering why it takes almost 1.5 hrs to return from a 20kms+ trip on weekdays. Anyways, i'm keeping my options open for the moment, will browse the b&s section, though i'm not sure if my Manila sched will allow meet-ups with sellers. Btw, i'm from down south, see you on our trails too, man! marcs, i think i'm running out of time brad, my old HT might just break on me anytime that's why i need to change frames. The mechanic actually suggested putting a sleeve on the head tube but i decided to just go for a replacement. But your idea has merit brad...

other pressures pala. sorry didn't see it. go for a good HT then, you can always sell it later on. dangerous to keep riding with a HT that might break. 1.5hrs and she's wondering where you are already?! . . . .naku, have to spice up those diplomatic skills coz you'll need more time pre when you start doing those long rides. most of us just leave the house super early so back in time when they're just waking up hehehe

ooooh 1.5 hrs and she misses you already? marcs is right, better hone your bargaining power. The way I see it, its either she is very loving and caring that she doesn't want to loose sight of you for so long OR you have a history of misbehaving hehehe joke only okie check out the B&S frame section, there's a Haro Shift R3 there selling for 12k only. It might suite your needs. The frame is like this content.mtbr.com/TRP_14_313_9crx.aspx

for HT, there's KHS, Giant, GT, Da Bomb, Vision and a whole lot more regarding meet ups, you might want to open your options to shipping. checkout the LBS listing and try to contact them if they are willing to ship. I know that King's and Gran Trail are some of the shops that ships components

marcs, actually there's a squeaking sound already coming from the headset when i pedal & the mechanic says it might be the bearing moving. The y-shaped crack is at the bottom part of the headset tube. Well, i bike in the afternoon after office hours and have to be back before supper that's why the wife grumbles a bit because she doesn't want to eat supper without me and she wants to eat before 7pm, hehe. On weekends i do try to go on longer rides spending maybe 2-3 hrs, leaving before 4pm when the sun's not too hot. I can't seem to have the energy to bike early in the morning, i usually stay up late kasi watching TV. angelobryant, brad whatever happened to your sinuperlight? Any updates good or bad? FYI brad i'm a good boy ;D and i try to please my wife most of the time ... remember... happy wife, happy life... I've checked out the link and it looks nice, my size too. I've been browsing through the b&s and so far these frames i find interesting: 1. Haro shift R3 medium size for P12k 2. Da bomb tora bora (size not indicated) for 4.8k 3. KHS alite 4000 size 19" for P9k w/ TI handle bar - what's TI? 4. Giant XTC SE1 size 19" for P8.5k firm is size 19" too big for my build? I'm 5'11" and 170 lbs and the mechanic says i'm a size 18". If i go for a size 17" HT, would that be too small? My old HT is 18" btw and looks more like a road bike frame than an mtb. anthrax76, thanks for the info brad. My only concern for shipping esp. for 2nd hand items is you can't check out the item before buying and it would be too much hassle returning if ever. Can you please share your top 3 quality HT frame choices say below 8k? TIA

My sinuperlight is still alive but it is relegated as a beat up bike. The frame is pretty tough but not tough enough for me to risk my life and limb. I upgrade to a KHS FS frame. All of the parts that I changed went to that frame so thats how I ended up with two bikes. Planning to convert that bike into a hardtail (hybrid) for road use. Ride safe... play safe.. love your wife.. and dont play with fire ;D

angelobryant, i've read somewhere that it's better to have a smaller bike for better maneuverability rather than a larger bike, especially for xc, any comments based on experience? So your sinuperlight is still alive and hanging tough. How much did you spend on that KHS frame? ... good advice there brad...

I'm 5'9" and I have a size 18. I find the khs plenty manueverable for my kind of riding which is trail/xc. I originally spent 12.5k for the frame including the shock, I later upgraded the shock to rockshox bar 2.1 so all in all, around 18k for the frame. pretty cheap for a good performing trail/xc bike.

another brother spared from a huge mistake... PinoyMTBiker works. 3. KHS alite 4000 size 19" for P9k w/ TI handle bar - what's TI? Can you please share your top 3 quality HT frame choices say below 8k? TIA TI i believe stands for titanium. For good, reliable HT frames within an P8k budget... i would suggest Merida hardtails and Kona Caldera. Happy hunting brad.

Is this a brand new KHS frame? Where did you get it? Can you give me the complete frame name so i can google it? Thanks brad... Got it from kings. Its brand new. KHS XC-104. If i were you, go for either the XC-204 or XC-604 so that you no longer have to upgrade the shock. I went for the XC-104 because I already have an airshock from my previous frame, I only bought the RS 2.1 because the one I was using conked out on me. Here's the link, this is the 08 model, I have the xc-104 model which is basically an xc-204 because I upgraded the shock to a RS 2.1 which is inherent in the 204. The frame itself from the 104 to the 604 is basically the same, the only difference between the frames are the shocks mounted on them. www.khsbicycles.com/03_xc_204_08.htm

knobbyist, where do i go look for for the best priced Merida and Kona Caldera? Pasay or Quiapo? TIA Prices at Quiapo are lower by a few hundred pesos most of the time. Although if i were to buy a new frame, i would get it at Ross at Cartimar cause of the excellent after sales service.

Thank you all for your inputs, much appreciated. angelobryant, the KHS XC-204 looks very nice but it does not fit my budget at this time brad. Your previous post about using your sinuperlight as a beater bike got me to thinking though. What if i buy the sinuperlight and convert my old HT into the beater bike? But problem is i don't have another bike, hehe, and can't tell yet when i'll be able to get one. And then the risk of getting a sinuperlight lemon ;D. Haay...guess i'll go for HT na lang. The Kona Caldera frame looks nice. I've checked out Da Bomb's website and they have very good looking HT frames that's to my liking too, anyone know about the price? TIA again. knobbyist, i'm from down south and it's not that often that i get to travel to Manila so for me after sales service would not be that big a deal. I'd rather go for the best price, so it's King's Quiapo then. anthrax76, thanks for the inputs. Guess i'll make my choice when i see the merchandise and the price tag .

Updates lang po... went to Cartimar last week, checked out the different bike stores there and initially canvassed the vision frame and least prices ranged from 3.5k to 3.8k, with the cheapest (forgot the name- not velocity) store right beside Ross (theirs was 3.6k). Unfortunately they only had two colors of my size and didn't have the color i wanted so i went back to Ross. Saw the KHS frame alite 500 (srp 4.8k i think) and the alite 1000 (srp 5.8k), srp prices less 15%. However, sizes and my colors for the alite 500 were limited (only gray available for 19"). In the end i settled for the beautifull matte black alite 1000 instead of the gray alite 500. Bought some other stuff too and was generally satisfied with the service and discounts given. Can't wait to have my new frame attached to my old bike... and ride them trails again...
Btw, thanks again to those who gave inputs. Very much appreciated bros.

the Return of the Sinuperlight . . . tan tan tan tan tanan tan tanan
jayong, read all the posts. it's not worth the money, the time, the potential injury. it will not give you the good ride a real FS can give, it won't give you the bling, and it surely ain't going to stand up to even moderate abuse.
