I was browsing through Paulina's and saw a nice looking frame. The shape and geometry looked like an '07 Santa Cruz Superlight but it had extra gussets and an ordinary looking dropout which gave it away knowing SC's dropouts are proprietary. I asked the saleslady, she confirmed it was an imitation and priced at P5,800. I pulled out my cam and took a pic: Here's how the original looks like: There has been a lot of imitation frames in the past which served the riders well, but they were mostly hardtails. There was just a bit of penalty on the weight, but no horror stories when it comes to use and durability. I thought the time will come that there will be cheaper full suspension frames due to improvements in the manufacturing process. The easiest one to copy will be single pivot frames due to the simplicity of the design and the the lesser number of parts used. The best ones to copy is Santa Cruz since their single pivots are tried and tested. I hope the bearings last. Just pop in a Fox Float which is 2x the price of the frame and hopefully it will turn out to be a good enough ride. Anybody willing to be the guinea pig and do product testing on this? So what's next, a Heckler and Bullit? Hmmm.... What are your thoughts on this?

The forming of the aluminum looked pretty good from where it was perched. I didn't ask them to pull it down anymore to take a closer look since I was in a bit in a hurry and just passed by. Yep, the decals aren't too good. If the frame proves to be good, just have it painted over. ;D

Go Jaymz! Take one for the team!!!
The frame came in medium. As far as I know, Kinesis made the orig SC single pivot models for for the past few years. I dunno about the '07 model. If you look closely, there is an extra gusset wrapped around the head tube which isn't on any Superlight. Looks like they used a fatter downtube too for durability purposes. Looks like they should change the name from "Superlight" to just "Light" or "Not so Light". That at least adds a bit of confidence on it's durability knowing its not the real thing.

For P5800 that frame is a lot better than the GTS URT which is more expensive...

Saw a similar SC Superlite FS frame on a bike shop (Mickey's Cycle 'yata) along McArthur hi-way near Monumento. Their asking price is 5500, pero they're willing to give it to me ng 5300.
I wouldn't recommend their mechanic though.

and all you need is a good rear shock like fox's float RP2 or RP23 or a manitou swinger with either a 3 or 4-way and you're good to go. so, whose willing to be the guinea pig.
total expense would be:
-frame: P5,300 -shock: any idea for fox RP23?

I think its 18t for an RP23 and around 13t for the regular Float Propedal that comes with the orig Superlight.
I'm willing to be the guinea pig, but my wallet is not. At least not yet. (unless there's someone who looks more like a guinea pig than me.) ;D

Dropouts and derailleur hanger look different from the orig. Still amazing. What shock does it have? Is that a DNM coil over?

OMG this frame deserves an imitation Chris King headset too...and a physique saddle ;D
Hmmm I hope theres one left for me, I'm willing to be a crash test dummy. Where can I buy an imitation MOB handlebar if there is such a thing?
Building a full fake bike is challenging hehe.

It's getting better everytime. Now the only question would be if the thickness, width and aluminum used on the pivot where the bearing is placed is designed to withstand the pressure applied by the weight and the hardened steel of the bearing without going oblong. Now woth this one, only a guinea pig who used this for a long period will be able to tell. Any testers? Just post so we can follow.

We should ask this guy from Zamboanga who posted his rig at pinkbike.com for a review.
