Thanks guys!
WOW! very very daunting task of finding a built bike will all the components you guys (specially dahuyan) said!
Man, this discipline (biking) is complicated. hehehe... that's why i was hoping to buy a built bike na being my first time buyer... then when i get to riding all the techniques and knowledge about parts (and its uses), brands, forks, shifters, brakes, etc.. will follow!
That was my original plan....wahhhhh!

You have 2 basic options: buy a built bike or assemble a bike yourself. Built is often cheaper, but many manufacturers go cheap on key components to meet a price point. If you assemble, you know what every component is. If you assemble it's also good to sit with the mechanic doing the build, and to ask questions.
Where do you live? If there's a good service-oriented bike shop near you, stop in, give them an idea of what you want and what you want to spend, and see what they have to offer. Good to start a relationship with your LBS, it will serve you well down the line. If you stay with the sport, you'll spend a lot of time (and money) there!
I would not personally suggets the shops in Quiapo or Cartimar. Maybe a little cheaper, but the quality of service generally sucks and the warranty is only valid til you're out the door.
My opinion only, of course...

Thanks man... I live in UP village, QC... I think the nearest LBS is Dirt Dawg (Visayas Ave.) and Bike Extreme (Panay Ave.)... I have been to both places already... Sa Dirt Dawg I never even made it inside coz they were all busy watching TV or something nakakahiya magtanong.... Sa Bike Extreme naman... mahihiya ka amgtanong kasi parang ang mamahal ng mga bikes na nandun! and the sales lady seemed busy or something coz she wasn't very entertaining....
I think i'll just have to go with the built bike option because: (1) i don't know what parts and brands i need other than the parts you mentioned; (2) I don't know the competitive price of each part, which means puwede pa rin akong tagain ng tindahan... I'm sure they'll be able to smell my newbie scent a mile away.
Now... which built bike to buy??? ....hhmmm... and between 20-25k lang like you said.... Giant Yukon? Iguana? Haro V3 or V4? Jamis...?

darkman, extreme is ok. i got my giant NRS built bike from them. i know your concern, asking the right questions. its hard specially if you're new. dayuhan has laid down your choices. but i think your next move would be just to buy a built bike instead and later on figure out the next upgrade. ;D there's nothing wrong with buying a built bike. in fact, i learned a lot from buying a built bike. what sucks and what doesnt. ;D go for a built bike na lang. coz i know it would be difficult for you to assemble everything from scratch. i'll give you a tip though: dont upgrade any parts of the bike until after a couple of serious rides. you have to know why you need to upgrade such parts. in my case, i upgraded some parts right away when i bought the bike. that wasnt practical. hope this helps.

For a bike shop, I suggest All Terra in Libis... call Edmund first, tell him you're new and looking for a bike, and arrange to be there when he's there - he's not always in the shop and you'll get much better service when he is. Sent you a PM with the number.
I bought my first bike from him, back in his Powerbikes days; I was spending under 20k and got treated like I was spending well over 200. Can't imagine a better guy to buy a first bike from.

If you can borrow and try different kinds of bikes do so. At least you will have an idea of what everyone else is saying then decide what is best for you. If you think you'll be hooked on two wheels like most of us here suggest you buy a decent grupo and frame. Ask around but ask bikers not store keepers. And bikers who actually ride and go out there. If you can afford an Anthem later on then go ahead. Can't go wrong with Giants.

got anthem too mate.. but unfortunately i broke the suspension cap .. ung cap sa may pop lock nya.. mali instal ko e.. nahugut..
can we replace the cap? just for the cap only"?
anthem is good.. light weight.. and has effectib shox when ders offroad.. another guess. d rear shox is somehow too hard.. rebounds only if theres lubak..
and whats the positiv and negativ for? any ideas?

darkman nice bike. reminds me of my all mountain rig (reign). we have the same fork, saddle, seatpost, shifters and brakes. it actually came from a bike like yours. parts taken from a haro X6 and transferred to a giant reign. awesome rig. see you at the trails brad.
snapy,
giant designed frames that resist bob, brake jack and all the nasty stuff you hate in full suspension frames. if you try pushing down on your saddle, the shock will not react. you would have to ride the bike and go over a hump or lubak to make it work. that's intelligent frame design at work. its actually what you're paying for.

Merida, Giant, and Trek all make quite decent hardtail frames at reasonable prices, also KHS, Jamis, Kona. Just look for a general purpose frame. HT frames designed specifically for urban/DJ use have a geometry that will make longer rides or trail rides uncomfortable, especially if much climbing is involved. Let's say you get a decent deal on a KHS Alite 2000, solid all-around HT frame (or equivalent). If you can find one, the Marzocchi EXR Pro is an excellent entry-level fork, very good value for money. I'd go BB7 on brakes, one place you don't want to go cheap. Shifters, cranks, derailleurs, Deore or LX. For wheels, Deore hubs, Mavic 223 rims, generic spokes. Bars, stem, post... Turbolite is solid and not so expensive. Don't get the cheapest saddle, look around for something comfortable, your butt will thank you. A bike like that may not win beauty contests, but it won't break your budget either. You can ride it anywhere, and if you keep it well it will serve you well for a good long time. The important thing is to ride it, a lot, in as many places as you can. Learn to service, tune, and lubricate, learn how everything works. You may not ride a bike like that forever, but you'll get a lot of pleasure and a lot of learning out of it, and when you do upgrade, you'll know what you're looking for. Hi sir dayuhan, I hope you still remember this post. Would just like to ask coz i bought a merida tfs 500 frame (HT)... how much would all these parts that you have enumerated cost (estimate) minus the frame of course? thank you...
