I've tried more than enough brand of hubs for myself. White Industry, Pulstar, Ringle, Shimano, Chris King, Element... etc.
But the one brand I'm really satisfied - Da Bomb. It's heavy, tough, cheap and easy to repair! You make pukpok here... pupukpok there... and pukpok everywhere using kalawang hammer then your all set! bearing? No problemo! You make tawad at Caloocan and you get a set for 300 pesos... plus you can buy sago and gulaman at the nearest tulak kariton passing by Rizal Ave.

I agree with Bryll that Da Bomb hubs get the job done at a great price... the bearings are also easy to find and are easy on the pocket... my four year old set mated to Da Bomb rims are still going strong. Chris King hubs are phenomenal due to their instant engagement. I noticed this when I used a set riding with the Montalbikers. They don't dismount at a stop, they just hold on to the mahogany trees waiting for the last guy to catch up, then Sonny shouts "go!" and everyone's off... with the Kings, as soon as your brain fires, your leg moves a millimeter and >kapow< down the singletrack you go like you were shot out of a cannon... With Kings, in singletrack ruts where you can't kick off a whole pedal stroke you can ratchet your way through because there's no backlash or wasted rotation... their biggest disadvantage for me is that they are not convertible from quick release to thru-axle, which is why mine are permanently mated to an xc rimset. The Industry Nines have a similar engagement interval as the Chris Kings, albeit via a different drive mechanism. The biggest advantage for me is that they are convertible from quick release to thru axle, much like the Mavic XT and SX wheelset series. I mated my Industry Nine hubs to Mavic 721 28mm rims, making a versatile XC/AM/DH wheelset. When I was using a Fox Float 140, I used them as QR hubs. Now that I'm using a Fox Van 36, I can use the same Industry 9 hubs with the thru-axle. Cool! The new Hope Pro 2 hubs seem to be a good mixture of great price, strong mechanism that can be taken apart and cleaned by hand, good seals, readily available bearings AND they're convertible from QR to thru-axle as well. They don't have the instant engagement of CK or I9, and they are supposedly insanely loud, but they are half the price. Here's HOPEing i can get to try out a set soon Time for me to check out Element hubs, I'm sure Bongjumper wouldn't recommend them if they didn't work well. I'm also seeing a lot of Tune hubs on the trails, I'd like to learn more about them too. I also have a set of old American Classic hubs, that everyone warns me not to use on the trails. They tell me that the pawls break and leave riders stranded, with no other choice but to walk home. I hope I haven't hurt anyone's feelings, just sharing trailside talk, and I'd love to be proven wrong. The Am Classic hubs seem awfully light and would build up into an awesome XC wheelset, but I sure wouldn't want to walk home! Happy trails everyone!

On SJ's 575, the freehub lasted about 1 year before it started going loco a little bit (not enough for her to notice while riding but enough for me to notice while working on it). It was easy to rebuild the freehub however (and it looks pretty easy to replace the bearings as well). It's a great lightweight hub if you're a tinkerer (and definitely lighter than CK's and lighter on the wallet as well).

With all the people using SLR's and SL's here in the Philippines, I don't see any votes for those massive red Mavic hubs.

Do you mean the hubs of SL and SLR It can not purchase hubs only and we considered it as factory build wheelset... then we need to start a new thread for the Best Wheelset in the world... Hubs of Mavic wheelset is also best...

Sir Bong, how much does a XC101 cost?
When it comes to bikes, the law of gravity is defied. The lighter the part, the heavier on the pockets. The heavier the part, the lighter on the pockets. What the heck!

Technium XC101: PHP 4.5K including Skewer Technium XC100: PHP 5.5K including Skewer If your fortunate enough and have lots of money to burn in... Buy the Hope, CK, I9, White I, Mavic WS...etc...etc... that will satisfy yourself... But if budget is limited... Just buy the affordable parts that can also give you a thousand satisfaction...

i sent an e-mail to that address a few months back about an element stem i was interested in at the time. he replied and said that he was no longer the distributor of element products here. i guess Element's website hasn't been updated yet.

To maintain the distributorship of a certain brand, need to maintain a minimum sales requirement or else it will offer be to others... Hopefully, soon there is a LBS cater this brand... or else, I can still help our fellow bikers to have this brand.

nice sir. are the xc100 rim brake versions of the xc101? Both model are for disc brakes... Element hubs are made in Taiwan right? Element is an original bike and bike parts manufacturing company in Taiwan if I'm not mistaken. Not implying anything but I think items made in Taiwan are now living up to our expectations. (OT: most of the famous laptops are made in taiwan, Dell, HP are partnering with Acer, Asus, etc. to manufacture them their needs. I think bike parts noted as "handmade in USA" are actually assembled or manufactured in Taiwan! Giant for instance!) So I guess that is how element competes in the market, lower price. Does it have the same technology with CK??? ;

"The best hub in the world"...a very subjective question or title I guess it's something that fits within your budget and needs

you are perfetly right, Elements brand is manufactured in Taiwan... For Bikes frames, there are two major bike frames manufacturer in Taiwan, Merida and the Giant. Merida is also contract manufacturer of frames for famous brands like Santa cruz, specialized, etc, etc, etc... Giant manufactured their own brand, not so sure if they also accept some contracts... If they frame have indicated" handmade in USA" like the carbon... this frame is really handmade in USA and not made in Taiwan... Taiwan have the technology like Auto CNC, Metalurgical engineering, surface plating tech and precision engineering, manpower skills and equipment better than CK... The only thing Taiwan need to improve is the designer skills... other than that. they have the capabilities to compete for low cost and good quality parts...

Agree, Taiwan has the technology, but lacked the design skills. So with the level that Element has achieved, would this be comparable to CK? I think the question is still in the air: Is this an alternative "best hub"?

Element is incomparable to CK... But in my own opinion, with reference to my own study about the price, weight, workmanship, quality and looks, This is one of the best alternative hubs...

I asked an ebay seller about the Element XC and he mentioned that the XC101 is even lighter. He mentioned that the declared weight is not true anymore because they have the latest XC101. I do not know how true is this, and is the tag price higher than XC100?
