mahirap kasi kalasin yung 2-ply na minion. hehehe. i've recently switched to knobbies as of late. the minion feels pretty good on the berms. i'm thinking about putting knobbies on the rear as well. maybe after that i'd get a boost of confidence in taking on that berm with a little more speed. - i still feel that the tioga factory 100 semi-slicks are the best for street play. Depende siguro sa rims. Kasi it's not difficult to remove mine from my rims naman (Which are Mavic D521 rims BTW). Hey, Urbanboy's going dirty na? ;D

for me, still the "specialized fastrack" folding tires are the best. climbs fast without any hassles!

Is it true that Maxxis tires are harder to remove from the rims compared with other tire brands?

Is it true that Maxxis tires are harder to remove from the rims compared with other tire brands? I have tried maxxis mobster and hard drive tires and didn't find it hard to remove (like any other tire i've installed/removed). or are you talking to an specific maxxis model/type of tire?

I think there are some rims that make tire replacement a tire-lever-breaking experience ... like my sun ds2-xc hehe ... especially whenever I put wirebead tires on it. However, Mang Junie at Kings Bike Shop doesn't break a sweat removing or installing tires on it ... so I guess most of us just need more skillz n experience.

I like Kenda Nevegals on almost all terrain. Although I had a bad experience using it on sharp rocks. The side wall of Kenda is not so thick, that a rock sliced through it exposing the inner tube.
On sharp rocks, however, I prefer Intense DH tires. Because of its thick side walls, you can even have a tire pressure of 20 PSI or even lower. I even heard of a Pro rider riding it flat during a race without destroying his rims. Great for Downhill rides! Downside...very heavy for climbs.

i've started using knobbies with maxxis (mofo dh, swamp thing, high roller). tried bontrager (earl)... hated it. tried wtb's (weirwolf)... loved it. now im back to maxxis with minion dh specific tires. so far the maxxis i have now are the best. very sticky, rolls fast and gives really good grip. only problem is i cant find them anywhere anymore. the last pair that i bought in endless are wearing out. if anyone knows where i can buy some, your response will be appreciated. (i only use the steel-bead ones, cant afford the folding type... size 2.35 only)

Ive had it with Kenda. Good performance, but they get tumors, esp. with Stan's sealant. Will go to specialized or contis this time.

i'm very happy with the nevegal's good grip on the trail, but it wears out so easily! i got them sometime this year lang and already the rear is worn out. two of my co-riders who ride with me all the time still have their tires good--one has been using Maxxis Larsen TT that's at least 6 months older than my nevegals, and the other Specialized Roll X.

You're either too extreme or dragging your rear brake too much on DHs.

i brake too much ;D but still! ;D So extreme nga coz you're braking at the last moment thats why the tires are subject to lots of traction and abuse ;D ;D

BUT STILL! ;D those Maxxis Larsen TTs that i mentioned used to belong to me, used them for about 3 months maybe, then gave them to my co-rider when i shifted to the lighter Kenda Klimaxx, found the Klimaxx too slippery after a couple of months, then changed to Kenda Nevegals. and today, those Maxxis tires are dirty but not even close to being worn out. anyway now i'm replacing the worn out nevegal with a block 8. we shall see

Id rather skid and scratch than slide and crash. The Maxxis looks fairly new coz there is no prominent knobs to wear out. We will try to get the "looks" on some other bike parts

I just bought block 8 yesterday Whoopi. Tried it at Tungko Mangga/Brgy San Roque/Brickstown trails early this morning. Hopefully, block 8 will outlast your Nevegals? Hopefully, it won't give me flat problems? I like its grippy performance though more so while climbing steep hills. I like the way it hugs the trail tight. Gives a solid feeling. Inspires me to ride more confidently. Although I expected the eights to roll faster and smoother per my 1.95 IRC Serac and Panaracer Cinder standard. Perhaps the tires are so brand new that is why the tiny knobs need to be broken down pa. I will observe more.

@fapirocky: The small block 8s will roll fast when they become tiny block 8 hehe just kiddin ... I also have Small Block 8s remember and I have run about 1000km on them. Yes they will be a lot faster when the center knobs become rounded a little bit. They also feel and rotate differently depending on the amount of tire pressure. The recommended range is 30-80 psi but I think it would be a big mistake to run them anywhere higher than 35psi for us asian size people who thankfully do not weigh more than 200lbs. At least in my case, they become too rigid, bouncy (makaldag?), feel weird and lack traction at 40psi and higher. I prefer to run mine at around 30 psi only (even on asphalt and concrete) and that is how they truly shine. (um remember our noodle rides - my spirited 25kph+ easy spin were of course made possible by good ole small block 8 ) Case in point: I immediately put them back on the wheels after the sierra ride (where I put on 1.5 slicks) because they almost roll just as fast anyway while providing much better comfort, confidence and grip. I've had only one flat with my small block 8s in about 5 months of nearly daily urban use (and weekend trail rides) where I put them through staircase rides and sidewalk mis-adventures. The knobs become remarkedly smaller specially the center knobs on the rear wheel after about several hundred km of use and I thought that I am gonna turn them into slicks much faster than expected but thankfully my fears had turned out to be pretty premature and unfounded. The knobs have more or less settled to a quiescent smaller block 8 state but nowhere near slicks yet hehehe. So far these are my favorite all around (and padyak all the way to the trail) tires and by a long shot too.
