Model: '05 Sherman Flick QR Price: $270.00 (P14,850.00 - got in onsale online) Bought from: Jensonusa.com Travel: 110/150mm (4/6 in.) Length of use: 7 months Bike Setup: SC Heckler w/ 5th coil over, 24/32/bashguard RF cranks, Azonic Outlaw wheelset in QR mode, Avid mech (7" both sides), Kenda Nevegal 2.35 w/ downhill casing, XT derailleur (F/R), XT cogset. Pros: Looks bomber. Very plush with compression and rebound adjustment. RTWD helps when climbing. It does suck up everything on the trail. Doesn't seem to bottom out on moderate drops (5-8ft) to tranny. Feels so good at speed. Cons: It might be too plush for my weight (165-170lbs.). Maybe too tall for normal trailriding for most riders but I like the feel. Sucks in too much energy on the dirt jumps.
We'll see how it does in the bike park this weekend.

Model: '04 Sherman Firefly SPV 20mm (urban camo) Price: I don't remember Bought from: HK Travel: 90-130mm Length of use: 6mos but owned for almost 2 years now Bike Setup: SC Chameleon Pros: Looks bombproof and good looking in urban camo. takes big hit and bumps with no problem but poor small bumps sensitivity...SPV is very tunable but I guess it's best for XC forks application... Cons: post mount quiet not suitable for some other disk brake brand and post mount adaptor for 8" rotor wuiet difficult to find. 90mm setting is similar to ETA functions on Marzocchi forks but ride harsher...
Overall its a good fork for AM or FR application...highly recommended such application...I rate it 4/5 chili's for that application... ;D

Sherman 03' no SPV Bought $212 used from ebay Used on a Giant AC 03' ... 5 inches travel...nice small bump sensitivity....light..bombproof and takes the big hits. Saved me a couple of times...allows me to take medium drops nose first...I would prefer this to a Marxocchi Z1 Freeride 03
Skareb Elite 04' PHP 8000 used. GT Avalanche hardtail for XC....100mm..plush and light...good small bump sensitvity...a bit flexy when you feather the breaks during descents (i use v brakes)

Model: '04 Black Super SPV 80mm Price: I don't remember Bought from: HK Travel: 80mm Length of use: 6 mos. normally installed on my wife's Juliana but ocasionally borrowed into my Blur for some races. Bike Setup: SC Blur, Hayes brakes, Thomson stem and seatpost, SLR saddle, XO RD and shifter, X-gen FD, etc..etc...etc... Pros: it's a good racing fork. stiffer than most 28mm stanchion forks out there. SPV is easy to setup and you can have infinite adjustment as you wish...you can set it up plush enough or almost rigid but still remains the travel on those big hits... Cons: there's always a tradeoff between the plush ride and the harsher one...this fork lost its small bumps sensitivity if setup hard for those hammering climbs... SPV can becomes clunky if pressure not setup very well according to riders weight.
Overall its a good fork for XC racing...I rate it 5/5 chili's for this specific application

Model: '06 Manitou R7 Platinum Price: 3000HKD Bought From: Chung Yung Cycle HK Travel: 80mm Lenght of use: 3 hours Bike Setup: Santa Cruz Blur but testing was done on Surly 1x1 due to trails are wet and muddy At my 70kg weight, SPV pressure set to 60psi while the Main Spring at 80psi....This setup works great for me using up 75mm travel during the duration of testing... Pros: The fork is very light at 1445gr. only (190mm steertube)...It's stiff and tracks the trail well where ever you point it and absorb bumps the way a Sherman fork did. Perfect for XC racers who are looking for a light fork that you can hammer off the saddle without bobbing... Cons:...No small bumps sensitivity unlike my Marathon XC and Bongjumper's Fox F100RLT. Test was done on this trails with a maximum speed of 55.4kph (recorded on my Sigma computer) on one of the fast section of this knarly trail...

Maybe too tall for normal trailriding for most riders but I like the feel. Sucks in too much energy on the dirt jumps. We'll see how it does in the bike park this weekend. Update on the fork for DH/FR. The fork's stiff, plush & very responsive - especially at speed. Over rockgardens, the fork keeps the front tire stuck - as long as you stay off the brakes. It has saved me a few times when I made mistakes on some sudden drops in the rockgardens. It takes moderately big hits (effectively around 10ft) very well w/o bottoming out. Landing was on a tranny so that could be the reason for the not-so-harsh landing. I'd recommend this for FR riders. Go with the 20mm thru axle - I could imagine how stiffer it's gonna be. Peace!

do we have any review for an entry level manitou splice being sold at P5,300.00?
is this value for money? or a suntour XCR would be better or perhaps a Rockshox J2?
Please help!

Model : Black Elite Year: 2006 Price: 8,500 Bought from: Kings Travel: 120mm Length of use(abuse?): 2 days Bike Setup: KHS XC-104, Kind Shock Focus (not happy with this), shimano deore groupset (except for brakes), avid bb7 brakes with 6" rotors, maxxis hard drive 2.1 tires on sunrims rhyno lite Pros: longer travel than my old (used for 1 ride) marzocchi exr race, lighter too, seems to have less initial resistance, softer ride (with the same sag level), adapterless attachment studs for my avid bb7 caliper, Cons: the manual is a pain to use (less user friendly than the marzocchi's)
i only got to ride my old exr race in 1 trail ride and that was when i had a specialized m5 hardtail frame... when i got the khs, i bought this fork and a ksfocus shock. the rear shock wasn't a very good idea it seems (another story)...
i had the suspension set up for proper sag (based on the manuals) and am continually experimenting with the rebound settings to find something that works for me.
where the exr race seemed to have some initial resistance when hitting bumps, these forks seem to just soak them up with no complaints... i don't do jumps and i'm a total newbie to bicycles so i haven't done anything that can even remotely bottom out either of the forks.
slamming on the brakes, i noticed the manitou dives much more easily than the marzocchis which is a bit disconcerting...
for the price (just a few hundred bucks more than the marz, i'm pretty happy with the performance and weight savings...

My friend has the lower end model (r7) and he says that it flexes a little and is a littlle hard on bumps. but he feels that it is quick though..i cant really tell a fork from flexing nor the quickness of it (in terms of steering). it all feels the same to me..

arcireyes, never owned a manitou splice and a rock shox j2, but comparing the price difference of a manitou splice, a rock shox j2 and a suntour xcr, id say i go for xcr for value for money heheh although IMHO having more expensive pricetag, they should perform better ;D ei guys, any reviews on the juicy manitou nixon? is the 20k plus pricetag worth all that juice?

AXEL 2007 is classified as an XC FOrk but it was installed in Haro R3 Shift in which the category is ATB. So i guess it can do harder jobs, one thing i noticed at the 2007 axel is that there is no travel adjustments and rebound unlike he older axels.
and the fork is soft though it brings lots of comfort in the shoulder area.

a friend of mine bought a manitou stance SC,lower leg cracked after 2 XC rides.dealer had it warrantied after 3 long months, sad to say,the lowers snapped once more after less than 5kms. of road use...not to mention oil coming from the dust seals.i think the stance and splices are manufactured by RST?

i think it was installed in a haro bike to cut the costs instead of putting a mid level fork... and also stance are for dj... how come they were crappy? heheh just my two cents...

Model : Year: manitou black elite 2003 Price: php15k Bought from: powerbikes Travel: ??mm (?in) adjustable travel 100-120mm Length of use(abuse?): going 3 years Bike Setup: i first used it on my giant xtc team hardtail, transferred it to my cherry bomb then put it back on the giant Pros: i think it was the last of the batch made from US, plush, can take a beating, have dropped it on 6' flat landings, has numerous settings-rebound, preload and travel adjust. no stiction, overall a great trail fork. Cons: thread on lower diskbrake mount is disintegrated only top screw is holding the caliper, no more hard riding for this one, i think standard diskbrake mounts are stronger

Length of use: a little over 1 month Bike Setup: '06 Iron Horse 7.3, Kenda Nevegal DH 2.5 Pros: Looks nice! Very plush with compression and rebound adjustment. Feels great at speed. TIA im beginner only.....but since my trek fuel 80 came with manitou splice and i used it down tukod and up hilltop 2 consecutive days 120kiolometer total...l say its comfortable for xc...nothing against suntour xcr...but i asked a bike shop (i forgot the name ..along pasay road near south superhiway) they say the xcr sometimes have the lockout problems...dont know if the splice suffers the same troubles...but at this time if you ask me..rather than have the xcr..id go for the splice...

Model: Year: Manitou Skareb Comp 05 Price: [/font]5K Bought from: Newton Travel: ??mm (?in) 80mm Length of use(abuse?): 2 years Bike Setup: 05 Jamis Dakar Sport, XTR drivetrain, Juicy 7, Thomson, Truvativ Team, Mavic Crossroc, and Karmas. Pros: Very light and very comparable to the SID. Plush enough for a 120-pounder like me specially when I found my "sweet spot". Cons: Steerer tube was short thus it gave me a hard time looking for the perfect stem with a proper rise. I eventually got tired of the constant neck pain because of the short travel so this brings me to the next fork I'm using right now.
Model : Year: 07 Manitou R7 Elite with Adjustable Compression Damping Price: 13K (Toss-up between a New R7 or a used Fox RL 100) Bought from: Ross Cycle Travel: ??mm (?in) 100mm Length of use(abuse?): Less than a month Bike Setup: (Ditto) Pros: Still light at 3.3 lbs.. The ACD is a surpise since the one Manitou has in their site shows nothing of such feature. (Am I lucky or what?) ;D Manitou. Cons: Can't say for now since I'm still in the break-in period.
A little off the topic. Sir Butch. Why start a thread on the Manitous. You're on a Fox fork na di'ba? Unless you have a new project.

Sir James,
The R7 Platinum is Manitou's race level fork. (equals to RS Sid's World Cup) The R7 Super Lockout is equivalent to RS Sid's Race. (I think.)
