I'm using a Topeak Panoram Mini wireless cyclocomp. Everytime I'll use the bike, I'll have to turn it ON manually, unlike a wired cyclocomp wherein it will turn ON by itself the moment the wheels of the bike rotates. Are all wireless cyclocomps act this way?

i think even some wired ones has that function.something like "sleep" mode. read your computers manual.it should be there

Wired cyclocomps will automatically turn ON when the wheels rotate. The Topeak cyclocomp that I have doesn't turn ON automatically. I'll always have to manually turn it ON each time I ride.

do you still have the manual? just about every cyclocomputer i've heard about has an auto start mode. it would seem odd that topeak doesn't. any other topeak panorama users out there? Wired cyclocomps will automatically turn ON when the wheels rotate. The Topeak cyclocomp that I have doesn't turn ON automatically. I'll always have to manually turn it ON each time I ride.

yup.check your manual.cateye cyclocomps have both manual and automatic start/stop functions.i used to manually start and stop it , until i forgot to stop it and timer was on for 3 days hehehe.in auto mode, cyclocomp starts when sensor picks up the magnet signal when wheel turns, and stops when you stop for a certain period of time or stop riding...no hassle

I still have the manual and there was no mention about autostart. However, it will go to 'standby' mode (only clock showing) in around 30min.

Yup, Alabados is in Q.C. Here's their complete address I got from one of the threads here in PinoyMTBiker: Alabados Cycle Center 115-C Kamias St., QC (in front of Shell gas station) Tel. 435-0843 Tempo III is really cheap. You can buy 2 for the price of one lowend cateye cyclocomp or 5 Tempos for the price of 1 Topeak cyclocomp. ;D You know, I plotted my usual route from my house to my office via Google earth (there's this ruler thing wherein you can measure the distance from one point to another. Cool feature!). I then used my Tempo III and biked to work. Lo and Behold! I got the same number of kilometers that I got in Google Earth! (Well, give or take 0.1 of a km.) hehehe! Maybe you guys should try Google Earth and plot your routes or trails, too. is this the one with a motorcycle shop beside that store???....try to drop by that store next time:)

I, too, have Topeak Panorama mini wireless cyclocomp. Manual does not mention about autostart. It will go to 'standby' mode (only clock showing) in half an hours time. I have to turn it On manually everytime I ride. Whereas Cateye cyclocomps have both manual and automatic start/stop functions.

wow boybi & rocky, that sucks. time to change! ;D
cyclocomputers i've used that have the auto start/stop functions:
cateye planet bike serfas
another thing about topeak, a friend of mine uses i think the Topeak Comp 140. very inconsistent when it rains (cadence 300+, speed 120kph...)

I just remembered, the Serfas wireless cyclocomp (forgot the model, it's the one with temperature display) also doesn't autostart. I'm just not sure if there's an option for it to autostart.

for those contemplating on buying a computer, i'd say don't buy any of them computers without auto start/off...when we go trailing, how many stops and starts we actually do? and you have to remind yourself to turn it on and off every time? dang! you will never get a reliable reading believe you me.

No problem if the stops/rests are just less than 30min, the computer won't go into standy mode.

wow boybi & rocky, that sucks. time to change! ;D May I add? There were several instances after Ibis bombed jackhammer trails, Panoram V12 Mini computer body unlocked from computer bracket, indicating incorrect data in the process.

Any reviews about the SERFAS wireless Speed & Cadence model? Its been out for a while now and am thinking of getting one instead of the Cateye Astrale 8. I want to be free of the wires but still want the reliability and function of the Astrale 8. Are they in the same league?

I want to be free of the wires but still want the reliability and function of the Astrale 8. Are they in the same league? I don't have a wireless Serfas nor a wireless Cateye. However, I feel they're not at par with any computers with wires. Currently, in the "dependability" aspect, wireless is no match with the wired. I've had an experience during a race where one rider asked me how many kilometers more before the finish line. I asked why he wanted to know because he had a cyclocomp on his rig. He then said: "wireless eh."

some guys have been complaining about the readings from the cadence sensor- or rather the lack of one. apparently it's sometimes hard to find the sweet spot where it will work reliably. the wireless serfas of another friend just quit after less then a year. i've been using the wired version myself since around september. so far so good. i may have to change the battery soon, but that's about it. i don't find the wires a hassle since caloy at all terra tucked, wrapped, routed and zip-tied them all into place. Ok, I guess I'll have to wait for a new Cateye wireless cyclocomputer w/ cadence. CC-TR200DW V2C available by March 2008. It already March 2008. any stores have it already?
Although wires are all tucked away as well. I figure it'll just look neater w/o them. Thanks Bruce, King and segundo.

Just go for Cateye, they have been making cyclocomputer for a long time na. I've had bad experiences with Cateye computers. 2 of my previous cyclocomps were Cateye, one consumes battery so fast I had to replace the batt every few weeks. Another suddenly displays garbage on the screen after just a few weeks of use.
