The Filipino Channel I think is a real moneymaker for ABS-CBN. Ever wonder why most balikbayans just have to be on the Wowowee show? With regards to Pinoy TV, i dunno, i guess most people love formula . . . some dude has this hidden talent, becomes a hero, lots of drama with a leading lady, and then, whatever happens, they will end up happily together in the end (with the theme song playing in all it's glory). maybe it's comforting. maybe the actors/actresses are hot. btw, remember in the 80s when most pinoy flicks will end with the cops coming at the very end (with white towel wrapped in their heads) as the heroes somehow finish off the villaines, AND THEN, they have an excursion at the beach complete with song and dance! huwaw! hehehehehe Anyone have reruns of Iskul Bukol? Sir Marcs, I can relate to the 80's, those cops with white towels, I usually see them in the stories of FPJ, Lito Lapid, Ramon Revilla, Rudy Fernandez etc. If skul bukol will have a rerun, it would be better if the original character will still be Tito, Vic and Joey. You may include Jose Manalo as a new character he he he.

even our choice of music...some foreign songs, when you really listen to what they're saying, they're just @#$%. hehe! colonial mentality? i don't know...maybe.
one time my wife was able to convince me...we watched that movie starring j.rosales and k.hermoza...i forgot the title already but it was good.

Same thing when I was still single, my GF will complain alot about my disinterest with her choice of movies, TV shows. She watch dramas and love stories and I like action, adventure, sci-fi. She sleeps if its my kind of movies, and I sleeps when it's hers. So what we did is just watch cartoons so both of us wont be interested with the movie but something else.

allegraWhen it comes to documentary style movies hands down I like to watch them! Like the one about Rizal and the one where Cesar Montano(did I spell cesar right? ^_^) plays the captain of a illegal fishing ship... Here's the problem! When they are trying to make movies with CG animation! Not even one pinoy movie could even rival the CG effects of Kung-fu Soccer! If they are not going to try to gamble on expensive visuals then why bother making the movie at all? The same with fantaseryas! Why bother? USA and Japan started it, China and other Asian countries followed! Why get left behind? Oh wait! Aside from documentary style movies the only other profitable movies were the "bold" movies! ;D

cmtulis, i think its a simple case of economics...believe you me, not a lot of movies make money...my boss used to work with a film outfit. no doubt in mind that we can make quality animation movies...in fact a lot of foreign films used filipino talents in making them..it's just walang masyadong susugal dyan. i personally know the producer of batang west side...he spent almost his lifetime savings on that movie...although i have not seen it, im sure it's one hell of a movie... it received 13 wins and 2 nominations pero ni dehins kumita yan. now, i think i'm already contradicting myself

ben dover Maybe the problem is they are trying to reach a lower audience? No offense but the most recent movies hasn't been how would I say it? Up to par with most of the middle class to upper class audience.. Yes, some people regardless of status watch shows and movies like that (like my friend T_T), but as he himself told me "it is not worth watching in the cinemas, it's more of a DVD(pirated) buy...".. Even small budget imported movies earn a lot of money in our country! Why is that?

Here we are, representing 1% of the Philippine population, wondering why local TV series and movies are geared toward the remaining 99% of the population. You don't become a tycoon funding mountainbike races or educational TV shows. You become a tycoon selling cigarettes, liquor, and showing dragging, easy-to-follow, hot telenovelas (imported even)! Simple economics. I guess!!! Do I watch the channel? Yes! Is there mermaid film done nicely? It's okay. The effects are acceptable, the actors/actresses are ok. What I find wanting is the "SHE" and moral of the story. In English class, we always ask the students to always ask themselves, when watching a movie or reading a book or writing a story, what is the SHE (Significant Human Experience) and moral of the story? Without it, the movie is a plain waste of time. It makes one feel like going through the long story and wondering in the end... WTF was that about? I don't even know whether to feel good or bad. I felt nothing... I remember nothing... It did not showcase the virtues and made me proud as a Filipino. If a foreigner were watching it, he'll ask himself: "what are these pipol"? and not get any hint of what we are really made of. We only got 1 TV at home. I'm stuck with the same channel every night! ;D

gadgets88Now that's a great way of looking at it! But come on! Only one percent of us? Not even 20%? Hey how about movies? Do you have something like what you said on TV shows for movies?
