I planned to check out Manila Ocean Park last Wednesday (05-07) when the security guard suddenly whistled me and told me that bikers are not allowed in the premise. My intention was to actually check out the said park. The guard instead told me that i can lock my bike at the fence but it was an indicent parking! the fence is located near the street and very visible by some bystanders there that can endanger my bike. I left the place frustrated and don't know what to do. I just want them to be aware that there are visitors who will be visiting by bike and this is the treatment we get! I just want alert fellow PMTBers my experiences. Cars can get in at anytime but bikes are being shooed away! Thanks for reading.

what is it about the bike that ticks most guards??? Is it too much of a hassle for them for someone to lock their bikes on a freakin fence just for a while??? I hope establishment owners orient guards about this

as i've said before,
most of them are stupid! no logical thinking and plainly stupid!
maybe people who trains them are also so stupid!
security? they don't offer that really, they are just there to hang around, to make sure that the establishment looks secured but basically, it's not with those kind of stupid people...
security guards should be trained properly and at the same time be thought of proper and good manners, and how to think properly without discrimination, as we can easily discriminate them as our bike costs far expensive than what they wear together with their 'paltik' gun and the cash they carry in their wallets..
instead of whooing away criminals and bad guys, They annoy patronizers, well-mannered people who wish to check out the establishment for a lot of good reasons.
they do not help the establishment to grow, they simply are not.
attention security agencies! please train people well, change trainor (which normally are military or ex-military who has war-shock and brain damage) ! maybe stupid already! so your agencies won't be!
if i'll get a security agency, i'll just hire goons! they are far more better..
MANILA OCEAN PARK? i don't patronize these kind of establishments existing in the philippines, since these establishments don't really help in nature conservations, they are just simply there to make a lot of PROFIT!
maybe i'll patronize them if they can clean up the manila bay and remove those pollutants and other violators there or make them follow regulations and laws regarding conservation of manila bay, well hell yah! goodluck! if u can!
please pass... hehehe...

thanks for that gtu! that statement is really hardhitting!
some other people think that bike commuting is only for poor people not unlike in Japan, Vietnam, China, Taiwan, Portland OR, and the Netherlands in which the rich and poor do commute by bike.

i believe the government should really play a vital role in the promotion of bicycle as a means transportation...napakadali sana...but i got this feeling that they are reluctant to do so for fear of being laugh at and the action will be used by some sectors as argument that we really are going down straight to the bottom...hala! we are now being ordered to use bicycles!
i need to sleep now...kung anu-ano na naiisip ko. ;D

manila was never really bike friendly, to think it's got bike shops left and right. we can't even ride the stairs in Luneta along Roxas blvd. a guard would tell you biking is not allowed there, and he's riding a bike. how many times the Pasaways was whistled while in Intramuros? funny thing is, look who's the DENR head now? the former mayor of manila for 2 terms, wa ha ha ha ha. and the current mayor....he's got chinese descent, i just don't know if he likes to ride a bike. i've been to ocean park, from the ticket i got, it's a private organization running the show. i'm just not sure about the parking. when i was still less that 4 feet tall, i remember the area as a huge playground. now it's a parking lot and stairs leading to ocean park. maybe you could talk to the guards in the restaurants near quirino grandstand if you can chain your bike near their establishment just a thought.

you get the same sh!++y treatment in MOA, went there on tandem last May 1 wanting to eat lunch at the restaurants after a good bike run with my GF but we were told that bikes were not allowed after 8 am. Well what the f*ck are the bike racks they built near the entertainment plaza for? I swear when I become president I will mandate that any guard screwing with cyclist will be shot on site harharhar!!!

how i wish TOF will be held this coming sunday so when we stop over at Quirino grandstand, we can show up at the Manila Ocean Park by the thousands. I bet that would make the heads of those guards expode. hehehe!
i also agree that the government should promote the use of bicycle as a viable means of transportation, specially with the rising prices of fuel... but they won't cause we're talking about the Philippine government here. hehehe!
i've taken my niece to Manila Ocean Park once. it was actually an experience but not that great and i think their website has a picture of an indoor aquarium with a whale shark, very enticing indeed which i was foolish enough to believe. no whale sharks in the premises people.

Let's use our PMTBiker clout... attn Krx, Seacd, etc. See what they did after Ron brought the same thing as per Trinoma? We're now welcome there.
As for the guards, let us not lump them all up into a single entity and dismiss them as a stupid species. They're just doing their job, and as far as I am concerned, trying to do your job and keeping it is not stupid. Be reminded that there too are foul-mouthed and bad mannered people in our ranks. But retraining them is a good idea though.
Why not, pay an Ocean Park entrance ticket, slip into the fish tank, and hold hostage a shark or a ray to get our message across? hehe.

Only in the Philippines! tsk tsk tsk Let me say...only Filipinos! It is because some Filipinos do the same thing even when they work abroad and worst, they do it with their "kabayans"...These people should be taught a lesson...is it being "bookish" or simply lack of common sense? ;D

But will anyone of you leave your 100K++ bikes outside of establishments? Will you have peace of mind touring the Ocean Park and not think of your bikes parked outside? ;D

i'm not referring to all the guards as i've said mostly...
guys just to add up...
our experience as part of the legendary "pasaway racing team"... we practice on urban rides and become one of the most respectable teams in dh racing (together with trixx, bentspokes, etc.)
so basically urban assault was our forte and we normally hit the road of makati and parts of metro manila..
we ride night and day..
we hit every stairs, drops from establishments we see which is feasible for our bikes back then...
we often encounter security guards, and a lot of them, were there to see what we are doing, and as i've encountered a lot of a-hole 2,
for example which is very common,
it's illegal to ride your bike in luneta park as a security told me a hundred times, and i replied, "sino may sabi?"
he answered order daw ng supervisor nila or head..
i told him pwede ko b kausapin?
he did'nt answered...
i told him in a humble way that we practice our bike skills since this is a recreational park., a national recreational park.. and it's not illegal.. since there is no sign, park regulations, or national law, etc, that we can't ride our bikes there... he whisperly said to me... "sir pagagalitan kasi ako ng officer namin pag nakita na pinabayaan ko kayo..."
after that i've said to him.. "sana sa susunod sabihin mo n lang ng maayos and don't treat mtb riders like squatters, baka kasi bigla ka barilin since there are a lot of them ay nasa mataas n estado... like that guys who owns a strip of establishments in remedios... (pointing to my kasama), and that guy who is an architect and that one an engineer...
and we peacefully left the premise...
another experience with a different guard...
the same story, yelling at us,,, then i also yell at him... "tawagin mo n kung sino gusto mo tawagin... idedemanda kitang bastos ka!" then he left....
then another experience again...
same story but my answer is....
"bakit kami bawal dito? eh yung naglalaro ng softball dehins nyo binabawalan? if the ball landed on your head i'm sure, comatose ka! try mo lang..."
and another answer...
"at saka, we are here for recreation do you know the meaning of that? english yun! ginagawa yun sa mga park! and pinagdidiskitahan mo kami samantalang you let this people sleep and lurk in the park which is dangerous to our security (i'm refering to some squatters who lives in luneta park, there were some guys in the area who are obviously not there to enjoy the park)... paano kung holdapin kami nyan? i know the law and it's bawal for these persons to be in the park.. unlike us who can properly show you identification and proof that were park goers..."
what they did is they woke up all those who are sleeping and drove them away...
=======================================
what do you think guys?
it's sad to see and hear this things, but we have rights and we should know it...
sometimes i think that some security guards makes their own laws and regulations to make their job easier... but basically, they lack a lot of things...

such rude manners to us pedal pushers should really be addressed the soonest. i empathize with randy since i also experienced the same treatment over a motnh ago. usually i would park near esplanade whenever i spin at the moa area. after a few rounds along the area, we decided to pedal to quirino, eventually to ocean park. there , i experienced the same fate randy had experienced. was i so pissed, considereing i was with chill at that time. just to tick the guard, i told him i would be back. we pedaled our way back to espalande and loaded our rigs at the back of my ranger and drove back to ocean park. upon arriving there, i looked for the guard who denied us entry. I spotted him and drove next to him and asked straight to face, "guard, now can we enter? boy was he dumbfounded! he was so apologetic then. so what's the difference between going there on bike, and going there having your bike in a vehicle.? jeez! the nerve of some people! really! those guards needs some ass spanking! curahee!

Avoid the Manila Ocean Park. It has zero educational value. The make you line up long lines. When you get inside there are no labels, no guided tours, no info on how we can preserve our coastal resources, no banyo....
Then when you get to that famous tunnel, the useless guides will rush you to the next big room which is the.... EXIT!

I also have the same experience as you do with security guards... Why this issue is not complain directly to the ocean park management or in MOA If it's true that the bikes is not allowed, then this is not the problem with the guard, he is just doing his job... Fully agree, some security guard don't know how expensive your bikes or how rich you are. Even you told them that it cost 100K or more. They will only think that your are just make "yabang" to them.... believe me... So, forget about the security guard... don't go down to their levels... kasabihan nga sa atin " pag pumatol ka sa sira ulo, sira ulo ka rin"... think better and bigger perspective... What is the result of the 10th Tour of the Fireflies it's already 10th, but still biking is not put into law. Every year, city mayors attended the event, only Marikina implement municipality ordinance for biking... but most of the cities in metro did not. We have a biker senator... Pia Cayetano, is she doing some law for biking... If no support from the government, believe me, biker's will always have a problem with the private and public sector... anyway, How much is the entrance fee in ocean park manila?

Just a simple reminder guys... don't put your life in danger... this guard you call sxxxxxd have the capability to put bullet in your head... if provoke and they do it, what you can do... your life is just wasted for nothing... After all, they will be free from prison but forever you will be under the ground... who is sxxxxxd then...
