;D guys & gals...tell us about wheel hubs your using. Tell us your exeriences with them. Anybody using "boutique" hubs (e.g. Chris King, DT Hugi/240, Hope) among you?

Anong hubs, yung sentro ba ibig mo sabihin?

) Insane nga presyo ng boutique hub specially Chris King..but still its the benchmark of hubs and as well their headsets. XTR! have to get feed back spa a barkada ko who's using Mavic517/DT revo/XTR hubs wheelset.

Actually pare-pareho lang yan, mas matibay nga yung mga Made in Japan na generic na bakal, yung mga SR Sakae noon. Talagang BRAND lamang ang binabayadan natin. Halimbawa si TOMAC na nag endorso ng Kenda ( mind you ang Kenda nung panahon ko e lokal ang rating nyan ) ngayon Bigatin na ang Kenda lalu na yung Signature model nya, but it has the same rubber and Nylon content of other brands. ( same model ha ) Sa ads kasi malaki epekto ng endorsement, kaya yang Chris King na yan, brand ang binabayadan dyan.
Sentro ang tawag sa hubs sa Laguna, parang common name na nya yon he he he ;D

Often these boutique hubs have excessive quality, quality that you're not gonna need. Quality has a point of diminishing returns, you can only grind the bearings so smooth... beyond that it's not gonna matter at all.
And since bearings are never waterproof all that smoothness is going away once you hit the rivers...
Then there are also boutique CNC hubs -- weak compared to the real forged hubs. There have been issues with radial lacing, the flanges get ripped off. Shimano specificaly warns against radial lacing, so does that mean that their hubs are weak?
Some boutique hubs are "certified" for radial lacing. Reinforced I suppose...
Then there are hubs with features like SunTour's Grease Guard. Hubs with replaceable cups, etc...
In the end I just chose Deore, much smoother than low-end Shimanos, for just a bit more money.
I also had SunTour hubs, they lasted a looooong time. Too bad SunTour is dead...

have Xt's on one bike, deore hubs on another. surprisingly, my deores are quieter, but my xt-hubbed wheel spins longer...tried spinning the wheels of both bikes while lying them upside down.
not a pro racer, not even a racer! but am happy with both and don't expect to service them for a looong time... from what i hear about their quality ;D

My full suspenion: Mavic Crossmax UST Disc. Integrated freewheel hub with FTS L system My hardtail: Sun-Ringlé custom hubset, hand laced to Sun 0ºLite rims with Black DT Butted spokes & alloy nipples, radial front, 2X rear (when spinning make a rattle snake sound) The most important you must have a sealed bearing hubs.

And since bearings are never waterproof all that smoothness is going away once you hit the rivers... I agree with Quality but there's no such thing as excessive in quality, it will really matters most on your type riding. If your the type of rider who squeeze out the fun out of your bike in every ride, then this are the types of hubs which will last you 4 times than the conventional hubs out there. As claimed CNC machined hubs (e.g. Hope) are rather weak compared forged ones (CK, XTR) which will entail selective lacing on the part of the builder. Waterproof... hmm Shimano just released their double sealed hubs on the XTR 960 & XT 760 series but cant have them now since they have that proprietary center locked disc.

I don't know if the DEORE, LX, and XT is the same in quality in terms of metal content and compositionesp the 2004 version, its only the XTR is different coz it has some titanium parts (daw) sabi sa MBAction.

Berns, you right about XTR, if you check out their website, their XTR 03 already have that spec, I guess for Rear Hub only;
Rear Freehub - FH-M950 Borozon Treated Races: Diamond polished bearing races provide ultra-smooth bearing action. Double Contact Seals: Shuts out water, dust, and mud from the hub bearing. Titanium Construction: Axle and freewheel body made from titanium to reduce weight.
Guil, I tried comparing the Deore and XT from their exploded layout, there's difference in hub angularity in hub body of XT (which they claimed for angular bearing load) and additional left Seal ring which is not included on Deores.
Funny thing is it seems they havent updated their XTR lines on their website, it still have the 950 series intead of 960 that went out with the new XTs
Last pricing I heard 2004 XT Groupset (v-brakes setup)=Php 28K...anyone knows where to get this cheaper?

Bubba Hubs is front wheel only ..I guess you have Abbah SOS for your rear? But still its light...true! light enough to go racing..tough enough to bang on the trail. With Trek 9.8....you got yourself a rocket ;D
