I prefer rapidfire with long cage rear derailleur... been using for years. Also easy trasition for the new xtr shifter/disc brake combo.

I'm all over for shimano rapsidfire, its easier to shift up to low gear when doin uphill with chain on tension using your thumb than the springloaded shifting used in gripshift(rapidrise), sometimes spring failed to upshift when chain is on tension.

im using SRAM Amy mahirap sa gripshift pag bagsak mo sa jump, madalas umiikot sa kapit mo kaya ang result unwanted shift. pero sa paakyat na gear mabilis sya compare sa rapidfire.
Rapidfire for me:)
I think gripshift is pang city light cross country lang talaga

I don't like Shimano but no choice So it's RF for me... But Sram's X-7 trigger shifters look interesting... Or better yet they should bring SunTour back from the dead!!! ;D

Rapidfire holds the cable tighter, sa Gripshift madalas ang ghost shifting sa experience ko lang naman.

Grip Shifter & Rapid Fires are totally different bananas..if your going to compare them try comparing the Rapid Fires with SRAM's Trigger Shifter.
But Still they have different shifting ratio.. anyway..preho sila di kalabit! ;D

Sorry to be a terminology weenie, but i think you guys mean rapidfire plus, not rapidfire;
Rapidfire shifters are those wherein the shifting levers are only accesibly by the thumb. (2 levers to push, located on top of each other).
Rapidfire plus are those wherein one is operated by the thumb, while the other is operated by the pointer finger.
Personally, i prefer rapidfire plus....

Personally, i prefer rapidfire plus.... Dino, the SRAM X series trigger shifters are operated the same way as the Rapid Fire you just clarified, using the thumb for up & down shifting (or pull it w/ your index finger). As claimed by other users, even the lowly x.7 blows the XTR for the smoothness of the shifting. Still have to equip my bike to verify this. The question is how much would the shifters-derailer combo might be.

SRAM: Trigger Shift Lawsuit www.bike-eu.com/nieuws_bekijken.asp?id=1300&janee=ja&criterium=SRAMMUNICH, Germany (12 March)- SRAM lost the most recent round in their litigation against Shimano about trigger shifters. SRAM's Stan Day announced this milestone in a press meeting in Taipei. Shimano doesn't yet want to comment on the verdict of the Munich court, pondering their words till after the weekend, the Shimano press responsible says. SRAM has to study the verdict, which didn't reach SRAM HQ yet in writing at the time the news was released. (OB) German Court Rules In Favor Of Shimano In Dispute With SRAM www.bicycleretailer.com/bicycleretailer/headlines/article_display.jsp?vnu_content_id=1000461545MARCH 12, 2004 -- TAIPEI, Taiwan (BRAIN)--A Munich court ruled SRAM's X7 shifter infringed on a Shimano patent. However, the court is continuing to review SRAM's contention that the patent should be nullified. The decision affects only X7 shifters sold in Germany. At a late afternoon press conference held on the third day of the Taiwan International Cycle Show, SRAM's Stan Day said that the company is accelerating its introduction of a 2006 model year shifter to replace the X7. SRAM will begin production in May. The company has notified its key customers in Germany and will have samples of the new shifter ready in two weeks. "SRAM will introduce its model year 2006 trigger shifter platform for the X7 and X9 in May," he said. The new mechanism has a slightly smaller platform, In addition, Day said SRAM is offering to pay a royalty to Shimano for X7s currently in the market. Day said that the company, while hoping to win the lawsuit, had a contingency plan in place in case the court ruled in Shimano's favor. "We didn't believe the Munich court would rule against us," Day said. Sitting in the audience was Shimano's general manager for Germany and other countries in the region, Bernhard Lange. Shimano asked for an injunction against SRAM last spring. The Munich court granted the injunction just before Eurobike opened last August. That ruling was then overturned last November and SRAM began shipping the X7 to its German customers.

Heck! Might as well have it now before they'll take it out of the market or have insane price increase because inavailability on some location BTW, Golp told me that Powerbikes sells this X.0 grip shifter & derailer set for 10K plus by order basis.
