You are right man! Our country can't even finish roads, sewer lines, etc! And even if a miracle happends and that contraption is made..... IT IS NOT SAFE!! Think about it.. Theives or Evil-Doers will risk bieng squashed just to park themselves inside and steal parts! Oh my God!!!! hehehe..

Neat! Contraption like that would never be built in the US either. Not enough bike commuters to justify the govt building such an expensive structure. Space must really be at a premium in Tokyo.
What if some malfunction happened and your beat up old commuter bike was put in and someone else's bling bike came out? doh!

Neat! Contraption like that would never be built in the US either. Not enough bike commuters to justify the govt building such an expensive structure. Space must really be at a premium in Tokyo. What if some malfunction happened and your beat up old commuter bike was put in and someone else's bling bike came out? doh! As you know, I just came back from "Silver Trekkie tours Tokyo" last April 1 to May 5. Yes. Space is really at a premium in Tokyo. Businessman is justified in building such an expensive structure to house commuter bikes for a parking fee of course. And here comes the interesting and rather baffling part. If some malfunction happened and your old beat up commuter bike was put in and someone else's bling bike came out, mr average Tokyoite won't pick someone else's bling bike but would seek commuter bike parking attendant and report the malfunction. It is just the way daily life interaction in tokyo is conducted. Which brings to mind three instances when I spotted Garmin GPS mounted on commuter bike handlebars where owner was nowhere near by and plainly obvious bike was parked while owner rode the subway train to work miles away. Frankly. My conscience cajoled moi to pocket Garmin GPS. But some angel whispered "Don't Rocky!" For this mind game to be repeated three times in space of a month's tokyo tour was rather devilish. So pathetic indeed that whenever I parked silver trekkie for a quickie to buy snacks inside 7-eleven convenience stores, I secure $10 old cyclocomputer I've been using for years by removing from handlebar as Manilan habit and pocketing small device. As if some tokyoite is interested on my cheapo Casio cyclometer versus more pricey Garmin GPS.
