i'm not sure if i'm posting in the right thread... but it says 'building a road bike' so here goes....
what can you guys say about the trek 1.9 '08 frameset, sram rival, and american classic 420? i have mtb's but i'm not very familiar w/ road bikes. i'm planning on building one.....

Im using AC 420 wheels with bladed spokes, very light. Ive read some complaints about them flexing, but Im only abt 150 lbs and never noticed this. Good wheels in my opinion Looks good

I have the same wheelset- AC 450. A friend is interested in it and wants to trade his AC Sprint 350 with it. The Sprint 350 is 160grams (?) lighter and the rear wheelset has a 3-cross set up- therefore, it's sturdier. The AC 450 looks better though. What say you, mga padre?

hmmm... little worried about the flexing of the AM 420's there... i'm nearly a hundred eighty pounds(gonna lose weight soon!). i was less than 160 three months ago. hehe, started drinking and eating again. anyway, don't you think i'm gonna have problems with he 420's coz i'm pretty heavy? i'm not a racer, but i want parts that suite me. budgetwise kasi-pasok yung 420's-and i like the way they look like. i really like rims that are 'bladed' with big decals. and they look good with the trek 1.9. hope the flexing is just a rumor.... hehehe.
oh yeah... and for the cockpit... don't know any brands for road but bontrager, fsa, and thomson. introduce me to other brands-yung available sa phil market-and i'm after aluminum, not carbon. i want to have more choices.wag masyado mahal a.

The 420's will do just fine. I fluctuate from 170lbs to 160lbs during the race and off season. No flexing at all. Best bang for your buck wheelset.

what are the differences between clinchers and tubulars? don't know anything about them..... Clinchers require in inner tube while the tubulars are "stitched" to the rim. I might be wrong though. Just search in google to be sure. Also, clinchers are cheaper.

thanks superbad! you're right! almost forgot about googling. hehe. and i guess i don't have to worry about flexing. probably the AM 420 bladed set are the right wheels for me.
what about stems, bars, and seatposts? are there any other brands you suggest?

what about stems, bars, and seatposts? are there any other brands you suggest? thanks! these parts really don't matter unless you're a weight weenie. if you can afford the really light carbon fiber parts, then you're all set. a good stem would be thomson though. but before you get a bike, make sure you get a bike fit. visit goyo or toot's store first.

update... bike fit, done... frame, bought - ave maldea frame but i bought it from a frined who by some grace of god is about the same size as i am... geometry at 53 - top tube, 52 - seat tube, 7 degrees sloping top tube, sexy type chain and seat stays..., have a trigon carbon fork on it as well as FSA headset... then i got mavic ksyrium elite's from another friend, debating about the seat... and the stem... changed my skewers to hope skewers... then i got a pro 42 cm handlebar... debating about the stem also... looking at a ultegra-duraace-fsa second hand gruupo... then finally yung seat, parang im choosing between fizik or selle italia... then yun na!!! estimated time of completion, 1st to 2nd week of july!

Eastons are good. But I know TurboLite is lighter. In fact, I even use TurboLite on my MTB- it's lighter than Thomson's! Can't say the same for their stem though.
And don't worry much about flexing. Most road wheelsets flex anyway.

how stupid of me... i'm using an easton bar on my fs and never thought of checking out their components! dumb. just checked their site-they have good road components as well. honestly, i really don't care much about the weight-i want gwapo stuff(stuff-not guys!). not posing here-just my preference. hehehe. as of now, i'm more inclined to buying easton compos. but i'm a thomson fan... i'm going to check turbolite as well. wow-it ain't easy building a bike-but it's fun!!! hehehe. thanks, brusko, for reminding me about easton! oh yeah, they also have killer looking wheelsets!

still checking components.... where can i find easton comps/wheelsets? i noticed there were lots of eastons in velo-got my easton riser bar there for my mtb . i didn't notice easton road stuff the last time i was there coz i was deeply concentrated on looking for trail shorts and shoes. thanks!

about components.....
thomson compos are popular in the mtb world-what about in road bikes?
what do you think about control tech?
checked deda, itm and trigon compos in the net. they're mostly made out of carbon fiber(don't want to shell out too much). as of now, i'm choosing among these: fsa, bontrager, thomson, easton, and control tech. i think it's just the brand and looks-probably them have the same quality and price(but i REALLY trust thomson). shoot.
do you have any other suggestions on framesets? not more than P30k. as of now i'm only eyeing one frame-trek 1.9.
on wheelsets, the easton ea50's(who knows how much?) and am class 420's (bladed).
drivetrain-no doubt-i really go for sram.
i love fizik saddles, of course, i'll go for arione.

if you guys have time, i'm really open to your suggestions.
