I woke up early to join a group of riders for a ride at the famous Jebel Hafeet mountain. I was hesitant at first coz I have not been able to ride regularly. Normally, we prepare and practice whenever there is a plan to ride at Jebel Hafeet but I never got to do that due to work schedule and several of the riders as well. But conquerors as we are, we never say we can not do it! We can DOH it! I was surprised to see a lot of riders from Dubai and Abu Dhabi. Our brothers from the Dubai Racers, Cannondale, Specialized, Dry Docks and individual riders came and joined us. Did I hear someone said we are more than 50 riders? All Pinoys who love to ride bikes... A truck load of bikes from Dubai Dry Docks... A bus load of riders and bikes from Abu Dhabi... Dubai Racers arrived early... Other riders from Dubai and Abu Dhabi... This is what you call camaraderie...Frank of Specialized and Amor Baluyot of Dubai Racers... The jersey says it all... Lakay... Picture taking at the foot of the mountain... At the top of the mountain... It's all fun and laughter...Pinoys have again conquered this mountain... Action shots and more photos to be posted by my colleagues...thanks for viewing!

It registered 38 degrees C yesterday and it is not yet the hottest. Summer in UAE means 40 to 46 degrees C.

hi jessielitecruz (if i may borrow how yukon calls you ) thanks for sharing that ride, great ride and great company by the way. just a question sir to visualize how LOOFEET Jebel Hafeet is.......how long is that climb and elevation gain from start to top. is our own Sierra Madre Hotel climb (about 21 kms from mang vic/boso boso but no idea on elevation) in its same level? enjoy your ride our doobie bros, and ride safe always. on another note.....just when your rides are ending our US east coast brother's rides are just starting

@tito Arci, Sierra Madre Hotel is around 2000 feet above sea level according to Tito Bobet's GPS from our last SM assault last year - about the same as Tagaytay. Here is an interesting tidbit about how loofeeet Jebel Hafeet is (via google): The Jebel Hafeet Mountain Road in the United Arab Emirates (UAE) is the greatest driving road in the world. Stretching for 7.3 miles and climbing nearly 4,000 feet, it boasts 60 corners and a surface so smooth that it would flatter a racetrack. It could easily be described as the eighth wonder of the world, but almost nothing is known about its creation.
The road is cut into the Jebel Hafeet mountain, the highest peak in the United Arab Emirates, the oil-rich Persian Gulf state. The mountain spans the border with Oman and lies about 90 minutes' drive southeast of the thriving city of Dubai. It looks down upon a dusty, desert landscape that belies a nation of astonishing wealth.
Official sources suggest it was built as a honey pot for tourists who travel from nearby cities to sample the mountain air. But with the exception of the surprisingly mediocre hotel, there's almost nothing here. The road culminates in a huge car park, but the tatty café is unworthy of custom.
Perhaps the real, unspoken reason for the road's existence is to be found a mile from the hotel. There, sitting on top of the mountain, is a huge palace belonging to Sheikh Zayed bin Sultan Al Nahyan, the current ruler of the Emirates. His face also adorns a huge banner announcing the entrance to the road and it's under his watch that it was constructed. This incredible feat of engineering is actually no more than a giant driveway. It's enough to make Bill Gates green with envy.
Nightride @ Jebel Hafeet anyone??? ;D

Nightride @ Jebel Hafeet anyone??? ;D There are actually a lot of foreign cyclist who come here day or night to practice. As I was told by Philip of Specialized, it's even better to ride at night as there are beaming lights all over including the cliff of the mountain. There is the annual duathlon and motorcyclists in big bikes (including our Pinoy brothers - Filipino Riders Dubai) frequent the place. I believe I am the only one who has a 800cc bike and most of them drive their 1,000 cc's and above...these are Pinoys ha...kaya ako kulelat... ;D

Harry, the trail in the UAE varies...there are trails which are actually long but due to the heat and lack of rest stops and stores, and of riders appointments or work schedules, we normally cut the trail short and go back to Dubai before 1:00 PM. On weekdays, we do night rides on good roads because the trails are 1 1/2 hours away from Dubai. There is a good place in Dubai called Nad Shesba. It's a cyclist friendly place where you can ride and practice. It is very near the horse race course where the richest horse race in the world is held. It's a short distance away from Safa Park.
By the way, you can also jog/run at Safa Park as it is also a jogger/runner friendly area coz the pavement is coated with a rubber. brad. malapit na and you must be very excited na and I know how it feels leaving your family as I still experience it until now whenever I go home for a vacation and seems so difficult to go back to Dubai.

goldkitten - Hi brad you are very close to Jebel Hafeet - anytime you are welcome to join our group here in dxb. Abu Dhabi is about 1.5 hrs by car from Dubai and vice versa. will start going to the mountains after the Ramadan - 5 months more to go. Every friday morning we're in Nad Al Sheba - we start at 6am to 9am at the most - too hot na kasi. Night ride in same place with our road bike after office hours - from 6pm to 9pm or you can start earlier. Best Regards.
