Global Day Of Action for Renewable Energy Dec 8, 2007
GLOBAL DAY OF ACTION
The GDA or the Global Day of Action is a global initiative of public engagement to address climate change. This year, people and organizations around the world will highlight the COP/MOP (Conference of Parties/Meeting of Parties) on the Kyoto Protocol[1] that will happen in Bali, Indonesia this December 2007. In the Philippines, Greenpeace has been pushing the government to pass the Renewable Energy Bill to ensure safer and cleaner energy sources. With more people, groups, organizations, schools, the GDA on Dec. 8 will provide a louder voice to encourage a better, more climate-friendly future for our country.
Event details
Title: RE Parade for the Climate,
Walk/Run/Bike for Clean Energy

Time: 7am to 11am, registration starts at 630am
Venue: Quezon Memorial Circle
*2km RE Parade
**5km walk/run for the climate
***bike for the climate
- meeting place: Liwasang Aurora
Objectives
Mobilize and engage various public groups including supporters, volunteers, schools, partner organizations, networks and other groups to participate in the global day of action.
Increase awareness on the climate change and encourage the public to push the government to pass the RE Bill with the understanding that renewable energy and energy efficiency are the solutions.
Theme
The RE parade will include everyone from all walks of life- students, runners, stilt-walkers, zip-artists, bikers, basketball players, cheering squads, activists - all aiming for one goal: for the government to pass the Renewable Energy Bill NOW. Renewable energy is the main theme – which will be embodied in the different parols, hats, costumes or any type of prop each group or individual would like to bring or wear. The various renewable energy sources that can be used as the group's theme can be wind, sun/solar, water or a mix of all or any of these.
Message
The RE Parade message: Pass the Renewable Energy Bill NOW.
Each group is encouraged to go in their own RE attire or parol. We don't want just any type of costumes. We want to be able to send our message to our audience – thru streamers, placards or thru the props themselves. The messages/banners of each group should be within renewable energy message or climate change issue. Examples are as follows:
Solar Up/Solarize – with sun or solar power prop
We want wind power – with wind as the theme of the group
We want Clean Energy
Save the Climate
