be careful of your bikes bros and sis. even cheap bikes like mine are prone to being stolen.. 3 of my bikes were stolen in my garage even if the gate was locked. they still manage to break in.. now everytime i use my 4th bike i make sure that i park it inside our house.
be vigilant....

Suggestion, dont carry bicyle locks.. they give you a false sense of security. Whenever i go out and cycle I always have a friend with me so we take turns looking after the bikes. Never leave your bike out of sight for even a minute. A bolt cutter can cut a chain lock for less than 2 seconds.

what about the chains that are said to be bolt-cutter proof? Won't that make a difference?

if it's at knife/gun point it's bike jacking!
If it is life and death situation give the bike up, it's no use.

From my experience my bike was parked in our garage (together with 5 other bikes) in our house in UP Village and my brother woke me up saying that my m5 was missing. they got my GTS m5 but left my GT avalanche (repainted black and red) . I think the robber thought that since the M5 looked nicer then it would be more expensive. well i loved that bike and to thnk its just 3 months old.

my friend's bike was also stolen, to think that it is chained to a small palm tree in their garden... my friend was shocked that his bike is gone.... much worse his small tree was also chopped... now that his garden's beauty is abused.... he said it is raining heavily that night and no pet dog to guard it at all.... great thief... hope he burn in hell with that stolen bike...

Sorry to hear that, brad... I empathize with you... When did it happen, btw? Yesterday we saw your brother Carlo at UP... He didn't mentioned it to us.
Let's be vigilant always.

same thing happened to me last march 19, 2006 between 3:00am and 5:00am. unforgettable and very very hard to move on with my stolen GT Ruckus. only few here in philippines. sana may tubeculosis na lahat ng pamilya ng nagnakaw ng bike ko.....tongue inang magnanakaw yan!!!!! grrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr lesson: never trust your locks unless somebody is watching it. tim_book2, i'll be alert all time just to look for your precious XTC.

btw timothy, next time i think its best that you consider using a beater bike for your commuting purposes...use "the bike" for exclusively for your regular rides.. a giant xtc with lx level components is just too much of a bike for commuting, i think...sayang talaga...kung sa akin yan baka di ako makatulog ng isang lingo.
