Good news guys and gals!
We were able to meet up with the management of Araneta Center last week to make Araneta center more bike friendly. We met with the VP for security, the VP for Operations, and THE VP himself, Mr. Jorge Fores.
Its seems, the main reason they banned bikes was the proliferation of BMX pasaway boys in the late 80's and 90's who rode / jumped on the sidewalks posing safety issues to pedestrians. In the face of mounting criticisms agaionst them running through the various bike, sports and environmental egroups, and in light of the environmental issues being faced by responsible corporate citizens, some of them have come to face that their policy of "no bikes allowed" is out of date and is set for review.
We told them our talks with Greenhills, Tiendesitas, Eastwood, Ayala and put it in their face that the are the remaining hold-outs among commercial centers that remained that didn't allow bikes and provided bike parking facilitties.
Their reaction is very positive and they are just afraid of the cost/logistical implications of bike facilities like bike lanes and such for Araneta. We told them that basically, bike lanes need not be necessary. What is imprtant is biker parking and to treat bikers as part of the traffic. They are already asking for bike parking designs and suggestions of parking locations as well.
We'll be submitting three papers for them that they can present to the mangement board of Araneta.
This is were we need your help, for those who live/work in Libis, Eatwood, Ayala, Makati, Marikina(Blue Wave), Alabang, SM or Market Market, can you please take pictures of the bike parking facilities in your area and email them to me at least 2 megapixels(3mp or higher would be better) on your phone/camera or 500kb good for 3R would suffice. Include information of the location/establishment. My email address is krx_pineda@yahoo.com. Pretty please, the need is urgent as in ASAP. ;D
Thank you very much and wish us all luck!!

Shot the Asian bmx flatlands and trials competition in Ormoc last year and it was cool!!!! The Malaysian/Singapore riders creamed us though.
It sometimes is fun to make "kulit" the guards. Unfortunately, it has consquences. A bike park for urban rider/bmx.trials??? Let's see where all of this will bring us.

KrX ;D ey ricky so far in my vicinity no more signages of bikes not being allowed to park. Good news is, Ayala Museum, Glorietta and those surrounding the Malls have provided bike racks. I should say nice work on what they have done at Ayala Museum parking wherein Bike Racks were just fabricated to accomodate us. I'll try to get pics one of these days...oh BTW, parking is free.

reading this thread makes me smile somewhat. araneta center is owned by the progressive development corporation (i think this is the property holding company of the aranetas) have you noticed peepz that the properties inside the trails that we ride (maarat, licao2, macabud, parts of the san jose del monte areas) have progressive development corporation signs displayed? just a funny thought

hmm...how do they managed to acquire so much properties? who are these people? ok, no need to answer my questions heheh ;D fyi lang Progressive Development Corporation was established by Amado Araneta +, a sugar baron/miller from Negros, whose children--JORGE, heads PDC and is married to a former Columbian beauty queen (Stella Marquez); JUDY (nanay ni Senador, married to Gerardo, son of the former President); and Baby (married to a Makati Medical Center director, Dr. ___ Fores). No, they are not connected to Greggy Araneta, Ferdie Marcos' son-in-law

If you need naked protesters to go with the talks a lot of classic members are willing to participate. Though some are a little conservative and they will be wearing one sock only
