Hmmmm....
Can you specify the location of the parking facility? Is this an open or indoor parking facility??
Thanks!
kRx krx beside 6750 right after rustan's. its an open facility the parking is made up of steel. the ones you can bring down in a few days...the bike parking is at the edge (w/c is off limits na) Just an update. There was another incident posted by Boy Siojo at various egroups wherein he was harrassed by a securiy guard in Glorietta. Boy Siojo has joined us in the Critical Mass rides and is a pro underwater filmakerHERE IS MR. BOY SIOJO'S EMAIL: Does anyone know anyone who works at the Administration of the Ayala Malls? I bike commute almost everyday. I had a meeting today at Glorietta 3. I decided to take a chance and use the underground parking at Glorietta 3. The entrance is right across the New World Hotel. I approached the guard and asked if I could park inside. He was a bit surprised but he said yes and allowed me to go in. I also asked the lady giving out the parking tickets where I could park the bike, She answered that I can park the bike anywhere just as long as it is not in the way. Great, I thought, a very bike friendly facility. I promptly parked my bike beside a steel barricade and chained it there. I went into the mall, changed clothes and went to my meeting feeling happy knowing my bicycle would be safe and sound. Two hours later I went back to the parking area to get my bike and ride back to QC. As I was unlocking my bike a security guard approached me and started admonishing me for parking my bike at the facility and started telling me that bicycles are not allowed to park anywhere in the underground parking. I calmly told him that the guard at the entrance allowed me to go in and the lady at the ticket booth gave me the go signal to lock my bike where I locked it. He started telling me in an angry manner that it was my fault that the guard at the entrance was suspended because he allowed me in. I was very surprised. He then proceeded to tell, me in the same angry voice that Bikes are not welcome at any Glorietta parking. At this point I started showing authority. I asked him why are bicycles not allowed to park? He says management says so. I asked him is this policy written, then he says he does not know. I told him I am on his side, that the management should not have suspended the guard who allowed me in. At this point he started to calm down and told me that he felt bad for his colleague because he was suspended for allowing me to park. At this point in time, when all the issues about pollution, climate change, and impending environmnetal disasters are facing us, this antagonistic Ayala Mall policy is out of synch. The boss of the Ayala Conglomerate, Jaime Agusto Zobel de Ayala professes to be an environmentalist and his father, Don Jaime, even sits on the board of WWF, why then do their malls have this seemingly anti environment policy. I bicycle commute because it is my choice. I ride the bike as an advocacy for the Movement for Clean Air. I ride the bike as a statement that yes there is an alternative and environmental way to commute. I would like to tell Ayala Corporation that they should stay in synch with their big bosses. We cyclists have a right too. Cyclists, in fact, should be given more benefits as we are moving about the city without adding to the pollution. I left my calling card with guard and told him that I would appreciate it if he gives the card to his boss and please ask them to call me. I would like to have the suspended guard reinstated and I would like to get the chance to talk to the management about allowing bikes to park in their parking areas. So can anyone out there point me in the right direction? Maraming salamat po. Boy Siojo

Mr. Bert Fabian of the ADB, the coorganizer of the Walkways and Bikeways forum last year together with the Firefly Brigade at the ADB contacted Mr. Buddy Tan of Ayala Land. Ayala Land participated in the forum last year and committed to the Fireflies and the audience present on the putting up of bike parking facilities in all Ayala Land parking.
Here is Bert's email to Buddy Tan
Dear Buddy,
Sorry to bother you, but there is an issue regarding the bike parkings in Glorietta from the Firefly Brigade group (see message below). I remember you informed us that you have provided bike parkings in Glorietta? I hope you can help us on this one...
Thank you very much.
P.S. We'll just send you relevant materials on BRT that we can get in Jakarta..
Bert

Buddy Tan emailed Bert and me regarding the incident. Here is his email
"ALI Tan, Buddy C." <tan.buddy@ayalaland .com.ph> "Our maintenance group have traced this incident and talked to Mr. Siojo directly about it. We would like to confirm that bicycle and motorcycle racks are provided at carparks in Ayala Center Glorietta and that there is no prohibition against the parking of bicycles in these carparks." YEHEY!! Kaya sa susunod na sitahin kayo sa Ayala ng mga guard, sabihin nyo(in a nice way of course, "Sinabi po kasi ni Buddy Tan pwede mag park ng bike sa Ayala. Pwedeng po kaya siya kausapin nyo??" I believe Mr. Tan is a senior official of Ayala Land.(VP ata) Ricky P. ;D

i don't think the zobels would even bother with cumbersome concerns like this. they have people who work on these. what i'd like to see though is the entire metropolis being bike friendly. to the least some cities. i guess it's hard to convey that for some biking is part of their lifestyle.

Hi John. Many thanks. I also got a message re this from another friend yesterday. I'm already working on it. We must sort this out immediately. In fact I discussed this bike policy issue with our shopping centers people a few weeks ago when an athlete friend encountered the same problem. They haven't moved quickly enough. I think they've contacted or are about to contact Boy Siojo. Thanks again John. Appreciate the info. I can imagine how irritating incidents like this can be for customers of the Center. Regards, Fernando
the one who posted this originally wrote a letter relating an unfortunate incident related to him parking his bike using the Ayala parking facilities. he has since gotten e-mails and phone calls from various Ayala companies, and was invited for a meeting on tuesday.

I mentioned this concern to my sister (Division manager of Ayala Malls). According to her, they have talked to Mr. Siojo and have cleared the matter up. Apparently, the guard was wrong in saying that bikes are not allowed to park in their malls.
P.S. Fullspeed... i also forwarded your post to her, just to make sure your pareng Fernando remembers you! nyehehehe =p

That was super funny A REPORT BY MR. BOY SIOJO on the meeting with AYALAHi guys, The meeting with the Ayala Representatives regarding the paking incident at Glorietta went well. The representatives from Ayala were: Mr. Al Legaspi, SVP Ayala Property Management Corp, who also happens to be one of my former diving students. Ms. Rowena Manhit-Tomeldan VP & Group Head, Ayala Malls Group Ms. Myrna Fernandez, Senior Division Manager, Ayala Malls Group Engr. Eric Calupe, Supervisor, Carparks Group and Ms. Veron Atienza, Area Administrator, Commercial Center Carparks With me at the same meeting were two representatives of the Firefly Brigade, Mr. Jack Yabut and Mr. Ricky Pineda. The Ayala group reiterated they they do have bike parking facilities and that they are pro environment. They have placed these bike racks and allowed bicycle parking a while back after the Walkways and Bikeways Forum co-organized by the ADB. It seems that the guard that accosted me was misinformed. The matter has now been rectified. At present, some of the bike parking facilities are free but some have a fee. Jack pointed out to the Ayala group that the income from bike parking is negligable and that giving the parking for free would do Ayala more good. They said, in a very positive tone, that they would look into giving the bike parking for free. Engr, Calupe gave a copy of the memorandum allowing bikes to park in all Ayala Facilities. He also gave maps of where all the bike racks are. The soft copies are with Jack Yabut and he will upload it to the file section of the egroup soon. The Ayala group said that they will also try to talk to the Barangays who have jurisdiction over Salcedo and Legaspi Villages regarding Bike Parking. Although they own most of the district, they do not have jurisdiction over them. The Ayala Group also are in charge of The Fort. We told them that there are signs at The Fort that says Biking Not Allowed. Mr. Legaspi said he will look into this, as again it maybe a case of misunderstanding. We also asked them to study the possibility of declaring a carless day once a month as part of their committment to the Clean Air Advocasy, again they responded in a very positive manner We ended the meeting on a very good note. They would like to participate in the Tour of the Fireflies in 2007. The possible start and end point of the Tour is The Fort. Maraming salamat po. Boy Siojo EcoRescue

I believe Ayalaland is now managing parts if not the whole of "The Fort". Pls correct me if I am wrong. And they actually brought up the idea of the TOF starting and ending at "The Fort".

AS OF TODAY MONDAY, DECEMBER 18, 2006, 1:00 pm, this bike, MY BIKE is being evicted by the new parking management. Located at the back of Philamlife Bldg AND INSULAR LIFE. along Valero St., they are now asking me move my bike elsewhere. MY offer to pay for parking has been refused. Sigh ! It's really sad cause this is where I have always parked ever since I started working. This act of service refusal is clearly prejudicial. I am dearly saddened by this and I dont know what to do. I am a taxpayer and have rights too.
