Where do you park your bike in the office? IN our office I just leave it outside the vicinity coz they don't allow bike inside "baka makita daw ng mga boss" I hope every employer and company gives consideration to those who bike commute...
welcome to bike commmuting chitonoel...

biked to work today. i'm still in the process of breaking in my new rig. it's soooooo heavy, and i can't mash the pedals. so i'm learning how to climb without standing. i'm too used to my old frame where i can power it up an incline instead of pedalling it smoothly.

nikkocholo, he he he, check it out on the Bike Gallery, Anthrax's Mamaw. it's 36 lbs. veeery heavy, it takes me 29 minutes to cover 8.5 km. mandaluyong to mckinley hill. bad thing is, Gate 1 going in fort bonifacio is being widened (i think) and it's mud, water and sand. funny thing is, SUV's in front of me goes reaaaaaaly slow. i don't understand it, i have 5.5 inches of travel. they have about 8 or 10, and they ride like push cart, feeling all the bumps on the road, nya ha ha ha.

Tried bike commuting to work last monday for the first time(been planning to do so for quite some time).... It's about 18.7 kms.(one-way) from my place in cainta to my ofc in pasong tamo makati; left at 6:30am and arrived exactly an hour later... route was, ortigas then left at c.raymundo then left at c-5, then right at market-market, then mc kinley, ayala, left at makati ave., right at paseo, and finally left at pasong tamo. The ride was great, except for the pollution, kept me energized the whole day; plus it was fun riding with the "regular" bike-commuters(ang lalakas nila)... The ride home was a different story; 6:30pm rush-hour traffic was terrible and all the cars, jeeps, busses, especially motorcycles, were all driving like crazy... not leaving an inch for me to squeeze my bike through. I had to cleat & uncleat probably a hundred times(exag ) grabe it was scary! motorists here really do not have any respect for cyclists. I salute those who do this on a regular basis... hats-off to you my friends! as for me, as long as there are no bike lanes on our streets, I don't think I'd do it again, at least not alone... I was lucky enough to survive once, I may not be that lucky next time.

silverjake, brad from market market, you could pass through essensa going towards (Lawton) gate 3. turn right just before the nichols flyover and you'll hit pasong tamo extension. you'll hit Levi's, EDSA, BTC and Sabak, he he he. it's a longer route but it might ease your woes passing by mckinley and ayala.

Silverjake - anthrax is right it's a fun route to go to...next time you ride off-trail, try riding over sidewalks...makes you worry free from (crazy) motorists who doesn't give a d@mn about us...and for the pollution, try wearing mask - like those whom MMDA guys use...or if you're not comfy with that, try surgical mask, breathable and light...makes you look a bit awkward though hehehe
BTW I'm planning to go geared again...riding SS makes my travel a bit slow...If not geared, I'll use a higher gearing..maybe 32tx14T, I'm currently using 32x18...

silverjake: try to use the sidewalk just like nikkocholo said. and try to avoid the main streets. try to find streets that are parallel to the main road your taking and try to bike defensively. ;D you'll get the hang of it!

anthrax: yeah, thought about that route too but just decided to take the shorter one nikkocholo: a mask is a really good idea for bike commuting... before going home I even passed by our clinic to ask for a surgical mask... and yup, I looked weird lancetyrone: sidestreets are a good idea, I could've passed by shaw blvd then makati mandaluyong bridge... was just too scared of being bike-jacked and yes, very true... be VEEERRRYYY defensive when biking in our public roads... try leaving your "k*pal" driving habits at home

hey hey hey, guess what, from mckinley, I had to go to the fort strip last Friday. when i reached 5th ave, i just used the sidewalk, turned right towards the fort strip. i told the guards in the parking lot where i can leave my bike since i'm there to just pickup someting at zong. surprise surprise, they let me in the parking lot, through embassy and said since i'm not going to stay long i could bring the bike in the fort strip. after picking up the item at zong, i went to through the parking, back to the sidewalk. i even saw 2 roving guards on a motorcycle, they didn't even take notice of me .

I'm really lucky to live in Marikina - probably the most bike-friendly city in Metro Manila, and work in Xaviervile Ave., one of the few roads in QC with bike lanes. takes me 20 mins from my place at Marquinton to the office. I ride from from my unit to my office door to door travelling 90% of the way in bike lanes and bike paths. the only catch is the climb to katipunan where I choke on vehicle exhaust. Nothings perfect I guess. Does anyone use an oxygen mask?

with the continuous steep rise of fuel prices, how i wish i could commute to work too. kaya lang it's a pretty long way from delmonte,qc to the domestic airport in pasay. work starts at 3pm (ang inet!) and ends 10:30pm (ang dilim!). our office doesn't have any shower facilities nor does it have any decent spot for bike parking (if they allow bikes inside the parking lot at all). sigh!

I think it is time right now for the government to act in regards to bike commuting due to fuel prices soaring like rockebombs! A law might be necessary for all establishments to put-up bike parking and shower rooms for all of their employees!
