Just want to share with you guys: www.epuk.org/Blogs/376/win-a-free-picture-libraryTo those who have invested quite an amount on camera gears, say, P30,000 to 6 Million, I have a question for you. Do photographers, like doctors, showbiz, government officials, men in the clergy, military, landlords and what career-have-you's, deserve to earn a decent living just like anyone else? If yes, how often have people come up to you and ask you to work for free?

as often as i could think of. mostly friends, and when i start to name the price they all back off, considering that i offer a real low price than those in the studio. what's their problem?!
one thing i hate about compact digicams is that it berefts those who study photography their job. The only thing that makes them stand out is sheer talent and not pedestrean shots.

that's the problem, with people who do not appreciate art (beauty) - they will surely not appreciate the artist. I'm sorry but when i work i expect to be paid.

It is so important to grow as a photographer with friends and clients who support you by referring you by word of mouth.
That's why you should always be punctual and be professional at work.
Next question: How and What do you tell them to justify your fees without sounding insulted or insulting?

it's like asking if Pro Cyclists need to get a decent living. it's not just a hobby, it's a source of living.
you're paying for the creativity, the "eye" of the photographer to get the best shot even at the worst situation. i have limited interaction with photographers, normally during graduation, school presentations and what not.
but when i got married, we needed to arrange a photographer. then i got a view of their craft and what i'm paying for. it's not just the picture but the talent of the person holding the lens.

Next question: How and What do you tell them to justify your fees without sounding insulted or insulting? I'm no photog but.....you can always use the "Friend, that's already my discounted offer." then show them your bloated price sheet, he he he but yeah, the photog who took a picture at my wedding, he got referrals from me, he's a good guy and i like his work

If you are dealing with a professional then you must act the same. You want a good photgrapher then you must pay for it. Its not about money, its services rendered. People dont understand that.
