Stove? Meron ako Camping Gaz na meron Peizo igniter. meron din ako MSR Dragonfly.
Okey sana ang mga butane kaya lang laging merong waste na cartridge, di ba dapat reduce tayo ng waste.
Stove used: MSR Whisperlite,XGK & Pocketrocket, assorted Kovea stoves, variants of Camping Gaz & Coleman stoves.

Never used it but will make one when I have a chance, this is famous among light backpackers in US. brad I know its only for Alcohol fuel (ethyl alcohol) nasubukan mo na ba ang ibang fuel like lighter fluid? Alam ko pede to sa Trangia

Sad but true, Dr. Pimentel(DMD) has rejoined with the grace of God. OT na 'to but its true: I recieved several phone calls during the day from concerned collegues and friends. Akala nila ako yun... Dr. Pimentel na naasidente (mistaken identity) we just have the same last name. I was taken by surprise, akala ko someones' playing a joke on me. Until my former prof, mentor and employer gave me a call. Ngayon ko lang nalaman na ang dami palang concerned sa akin. Bakit kaya ganun? When it your b-day few remembers pero when something tragic happens to you everyones there.

this is eerie, happened to us before, same trail, same mountain, maybe we are just lucky or we could be more alert than them not to suffer same fate
kaya kinilabutan ako nung mabasa ko yung story:
Mountaineer dies in trek on Makiling
Posted 00:43am (Mla time) Feb 08, 2005 By Nikko Dizon, Marlon Ramos Inquirer News Service
Editor's Note: Published on page A1 of the Feb. 8, 2005 issue of the Philippine Daily Inquirer
THEY heard the voices of children and the sound of a rushing river.
But there were no children and all they found was a dead river.
"We were lost. We thought we heard children playing so we followed the sound of their voices, thinking they could lead us back to the trail. But all we saw was a dead river. There were no children. Everything was just still," mountaineer Alfredo Tomines told the Inquirer.
Moments later, while negotiating a steep slope on Mt. Makiling, Tomines' companions, Rimando Pimentel and Lolita Ramos, slipped and fell. The rock footholds had given way because of the soft soil.
Ramos, 53, managed to grab a vine and tree branches which broke her fall. Pimentel, a 49-year-old dentist, fell head first some 400 meters.
Hearing Ramos' scream, Tomines, 31, who had walked several meters ahead of the pair, rushed back, sliding down the slope.
Tomines said Pimentel was still alive when he reached him, but blood was trickling from his mouth and he had a gaping wound in his back.
"I held his head and pressed a whole roll of tissue paper on his back to stop the bleeding. But his condition deteriorated fast," he said. "I could not help but think that the voices we had heard led us to the slope."
A few minutes later, Pimentel was dead.
Tomines said he had heard of stories about Makiling being home to many supernatural beings and strange encounters, but he never paid attention to them. He and Pimentel had, in fact, gone trekking there a few months ago.
Preparation
The three mountaineers, together with Frenzel Bauan, 20, climbed the 3,641-foot Makiling from the Alameda Farm in Sto. Tomas town, Batangas province, last Saturday at around 3 p.m. They followed an established trail.
Tomines said the trek was in preparation for their "major climb" of Mt. Giting-Giting in Romblon province this coming Holy Week.
At around 7 p.m., they found a campsite under a balete tree and decided to assault the mountain summit early the next day.
Tomines said they planned to descend using the University of the Philippines Los Baños (UPLB) Forestry College trail on the mountain's eastern side. It was the first time that all four experienced mountain climbers who belonged to the Philippine Heart Center Mountaineering Club (PHCM) would use that trail.
"Doc's friend gave us instructions but we weren't able to follow them. We lost our trail and wandered about, trying to look for it. We had been trekking for five hours. At around 3 p.m. we heard the children," Tomines said.
Help!
Bauan, who worked as a guide in Sagada, got separated from the group on their trek down from the summit and eventually found a trail that led him out of the mountain.
Accompanied by residents of Barangay Silang, an upland community in Makiling, he went to the house of Los Baños Mayor Caesar Perez to ask for help.
Perez informed Bauan that the municipal action center received a phone call from emergency hotline Text 117, informing them that a group of mountaineers was lost on Mt. Makiling.
Luckily, Tomines said, their mobile phones were still charged and had signals. They had called 117 as well as Tomines' brother, a member of the Mosart (Mountain Search & Rescue Team of the Philippines) for help.
Ramos sent text messages to her friends, one of whom alerted the Philippine Air Force (PAF) 505th Search and Rescue Group at around 6:30 p.m. on Sunday.
But the Air Force ruled out a night rescue because of the dangers it imposed.
Tomines, who suffered cuts and bruises all over his body, lamented that it took authorities from Los Baños too long to get to him and his friends.
Finally, at around 3 a.m. yesterday, members of Mosart found Tomines and Pimentel's lifeless body in a deep ravine.
Unknown trail
Chief Inspector Raul Tacaca, Sto. Tomas lespu chief, said Pimentel died from serious head injuries that he suffered after falling into a five-meter ravine in Sitio Palanggana, Barangay Bartolome, Sto. Tomas.
He said the victim could have tumbled head first.
Los Baños tourism officer Robi Cereno said the San Bartolome trail is unfamiliar to many mountaineers and is seldom used.
Rescue pilots and parajumpers reached the site early yesterday morning and were told that the ground rescuers had already reached the mountaineers and were bringing down Pimentel's body, said Air Force spokesperson Lieutenant Colonel Resty Padilla.
Pimentel's sister, Clarissa, and nephew, Sandy, were brought by the Air Force to Los Baños where they claimed the dentist's remains.
After helping give first aid to Tomines and Ramos, the Air Force airlifted the survivors and Pimentel's body, placed in a green body bag, back to Villamor Air Base in Pasay City at 10:30 a.m. yesterday.
Premonition
Tomines, who had been climbing with Pimentel for only a few months, said mountain climbing was the doctor's "passion."
Pimentel had been mountaineering for 10 years, he said.
"I could not help but think that he had many premonitions on what happened. When we got lost, he kept on saying that we would be in the newspapers the next day and that his trekking days were over. He also used to wear really old trekking clothes. But this time, he had a brand new pair of hiking shoes and a new shirt. I even teased him about it," Tomines said, shaking his head.
guys... don't ever underestimate any mountain.. whether it be hiking or biking the trails

I miss climbing already, last climb was 2004, before my first child.
has anyone tried climbing pico de loro from the batangas side? i've tried from the cavite side, the trail is bikeable, problem are the fences of local farmers so the cows won't stray. i wonder if the batangas route has no fences
